Dr. Iohn G. Hulton finishes his career at the end of this school term. Many students bene- fited from his fine work as Superintendent of Schools. Some knew him only as a busy import- ant mang many as a friend. Students, teachers, friends and business associates know that his work here in Latrobe is not without acknowl- edgement and appreciation. Before serving as superintendent, Dr. Hulton was a teacher and principal in Latrobe High. In his first year, he instructed students in Laiin, Algebra, civics and also taught science. Two years later, Dr. Hulton received the posi- tion of principal of the high school and served at this post for seven years. Following this, Dr. Hulton was made Super- intendent of Schools and rendered his services in the position for a period of twenty-five years. Along with serving as superintendent, Dr. Hul- ton is a member of the Pennsylvania State Edu- cation Association. He was also elected as president of the Department of Administration. The Education of Dr. Hulton was received in three different colleges. He attended Franklin College for four years, graduating with a Bach- elor of Arts degree, at the University of Pitts- burgh he earned his Masters degree. Conclud- ing his education, Dr. Hulton obtained his Doc- tor of Laws degree at St. Vincent College. Although a very busy man, Dr. Hulton takes time out for his several hobbies. Prominent among these are reading biographies and play- ing golf. Presiding behind the desk in the Administration Building Dr. Hulton was always ready to take time out to lend people a helping hand. His resignation becomes effective on lune 30, l954. Dr. Hulton has no definite plans for the future. His outstanding character which guided him in the past will light the way for his future. -4.0- - BUSY DAYS of Superintendent, Dr. Iohn G. Hulton, DR. Students in the Trade and Homemaking Courses of Latrobe High School receive the best possible preparation in their selected field. Boys in the Trade Course are trained to use their hands and machines in creating useful articles. This course is profitable in their ca- reer following graduation. It provides valu- able knowledge for work in the many factories of the district. In the wood shop the boys make such ar- ticles as desks, cedar chests, and tables. The electric shop boys Wire controls for motors, repair appliances, and repair electrical equip- ment for the school. Machine Shop students learn to operate lathes, grinders, and other tools used by a machinist. They also become acquainted with precision tools. Home Economics allows the girls to train and learn about sewing, cooking, and care of the home. The cottage provides the home- like atmosphere for these girls. They have charge of taking care of the cottage, keeping it clean and presentable. Sewing classes make clothes for themselves and exhibit them in a school fashion show. Girls are also given the opportunity to study related arts. In these classes, students make trays, wooden articles, and paint designs on finished products. ELECTRIC SHOP is among Vocational opportunities for boys.
