COURSE DESCRIPTION This course includes theory, laboratorylshop training, and practical experiences in the following areas: refined operations of all drill presses, engine lathes, horizontal and vertical milling machines, surface grinders, intemal and extemal grinders, tool cutters, jig boring, jig grinding, electrical discharge machine, bench work, layout ofjobs, blueprint reading, hot treatment of steels, mechanical drawing basic designing, metallurgy, shop mathematics. sketching, use of optical instruments in the inspection of work and other appropriate units. Students will have the opportunity to specialize in areas of their personal interest or ability. EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES Employment of tool and die makers is expected to increase moderately during the 1970's as a result of the anticipated expansion of metal working activity.

COURSE DESCRIPTION The student is taught the fundamentals of fusing metals by the use of heat produced from buming gas or an electric arc. Instruction includes the proper use, maintenance, and repair of acetylene torches and electric arc welding equipment. Both manual and automatically operated cutting torches are used for straight line cutting to templet design. Layout and project construction with various types of metals will be an important aspect of instruction. Welding processes include: manual electric arc with stick electrode, MIG- metalic inert gas arc welding with semi-automatic machines using solid wire and cored flux wire, TIG-tungsten inert gas' arc welding. and acetylene gas welding and brazing. EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES Opening for welders are available in all metal fabrication industries, maintenance work, testing and repair types of welding. Industries that would employ welders are: steel mills. mines, machine shops, aluminum fabricators, foundries, btilding and bridge contractors, pipeline construction and aircraft industries-including the space vehicle programs.
