Studying th fiend fast a (BsdJtsUi JuJtuM For the J.H.S. student who has a keen interest in the study of the past, along with current events, our History Department offers several fine courses. The student has an ex- cellent opportunity to study in such classes as problems of democracy, American history, ancient history, English history, and economics. Each history class is its own storehouse of knowledge. Entering an American history class, one learns of the great heritage of our country. If a student wishes to focus his atten- tion on such things as prehistoric man, the pyramids, or Greek democracy, he will find himself in an ancient history class. Economics and problems of democracy can really hold one's attention with expert instruction. English history, available the second semester, is an elected course which many find rewarding. Many of our students graduate with a greater understanding of the world around them, thanks to the efforts of our History Department. Mrs. Margaret Bowes is chairman.

Bookkeeping Class (2 Sihonq JoundcdLon (0J1 thsi JutuM Every year JHS turns out a group of well-trained students eagerly awaiting a career in the world of business. This year has been, of course, no exception. Commercial students have been introduced to various phases of business which include such skills as typing, shorthand, bookkeeping, selling, clerical training, the operation of business machines, and the interpretation of business law. Capable students were also given an opportunity for further training by working at a part-time job. This gave numerous students a taste of what the working world is really like. It also provided valuable experience which will help them to secure a permanent position in later life. Outstanding commercial students receive due honor in the annual awards assembly, given at the completion of the school year. This is particularly true of those who have ex- celled in typing or shorthand.
