The department not only teaches the fundamentals of English but broadens the students' knowl- edge of literature, public speaking, grammar, and vocabulary. The department also emphasizes the importance of effective reading and writing. As a most progressive group, English teachers keep in step with the new approaches to the teaching of grammar and writing. Because English is a living language the neces- sity to keep up-to-date is a must. The newest books can be found in every English room. The latest aids may be had in the way of film strips, motion pictures, and records. The English Department also gives the student an op- portunity to enter various writing contests as well as to be- come a member of the Debating Club.
