WILLIAM A. SHINE, Superintendent of Schools ADMiNiintTiON BuiLO'NO 345 LAHCVIU.C Ro o Great Neck Public Schools Cheat Neck New yohk 11020 PHONE 516 462 8650 WILLIAM A. SHINE lvn «TiNM«( o SCMOoct Vear Graduated: It is important to observe high school graduation with a ceremony that will mark the significance of the event. Ceremonies are also a time for reflection. You wilt always be linked to the class of 1987 as you have shared a common experience with 2.7 million other graduates for whom this June represents the format end of childhood dependency. Academic disciplines now understood as school subjects should assume new meaning as you become solely responsible individuals. They should assist you to confront intractable problems that, paradoxically, limit your choices but do not lessen your responsibility. Society may change, familiar forms of human relation- ships may seem to be at risk, uncertainty may appear to be the one constant, but the lessons of your childhood and youth should provide guidance and be a source of strength as you meet your future. One such simple lesson to help you engage the inchoate world is contained in the unadorned advice of every parent to every child, Be a good person. Sincerely, lui— William A. GILBERT BLUM, Principal If is hard to believe rhar four years hove gone by so quickly. Many members of the foculry and I often feel rhar we hove just really gorren ro know our students, we turn around and they ore gone. Of course, it really doesn't happen that way, bur it is our way of dramatizing the fact that the rime we hove spent with eoch other was really valuable, rewording and oil too short. We, like your parents, don’t wont to let go. Eoch of you is unique. No one has your feelings, no one sees whot you see, no one hos the some experiences or reactions. There never was, nor will there ever be another person like you. You are the only one who hos control your feelings and experiences. Live life for the precious commodity which it is. Take joy in the act of giving and in serving others. Do nor curse the unexpected, bur leorn ro deal with disappointments and leorn to turn those situations to positive feelings. Keep in mind that the person who will hove spent the happiest life is the one who will soy the fewest I should have’s.” In behalf of the faculty ot Great Neck South High School, I hope that our experiences together hove provided you with the tools to live happy and useful lives. 20
