WILLIAM A. SHINE, Superintendent of Schools ADMiNiintTiON BuiLO'NO 345 LAHCVIU.C Ro o Great Neck Public Schools Cheat Neck New yohk 11020 PHONE 516 462 8650 WILLIAM A. SHINE lvn «TiNM«( o SCMOoct Vear Graduated: It is important to observe high school graduation with a ceremony that will mark the significance of the event. Ceremonies are also a time for reflection. You wilt always be linked to the class of 1987 as you have shared a common experience with 2.7 million other graduates for whom this June represents the format end of childhood dependency. Academic disciplines now understood as school subjects should assume new meaning as you become solely responsible individuals. They should assist you to confront intractable problems that, paradoxically, limit your choices but do not lessen your responsibility. Society may change, familiar forms of human relation- ships may seem to be at risk, uncertainty may appear to be the one constant, but the lessons of your childhood and youth should provide guidance and be a source of strength as you meet your future. One such simple lesson to help you engage the inchoate world is contained in the unadorned advice of every parent to every child, Be a good person. Sincerely, lui— William A.
