The cooking department is et-pecially interesting. The kitchen is oil the top floor of the High School annex. ln connection with it. there is a large pantry and dining room. Twenty stus dents can he accommodated in the kit- chen at one time as there arc ten desks. two working at each dt-sk. livery girl is provided with a gas stove of one hurncr and all the cooking utensifs needed by a cook. A gas range of the s'ze ordinarly ustd in the home is provided and in addition to this there a1'e twenty individual oYells. The kitchen is further ctpiippcd with a laree refriverator. 'l'he ffrls work in P ta 4 1 pairs, taking turns washing and wiping dishes. '1,'hen. they took up the drafting of patterns which XV U 1' B used later in making combination suits. At the present time. the girls are mak- ing night gowns with hand embroidery. Un Dec. 17, 1913. a luncheon was givin hy the girls of the domestic science cle- partment, under the direction of Miss Edna Hagerman. instructor of domestic science. to the memhers of the school hoard. Supt. S. D. Largent, and Prof. .l. ll. liae. The color scheme was pink and white. ln the center of the table was a bouquet of pink flowers, The place cards were tiny Santa Clauses carrying packages. Sinee this was the iiirst luncheon given by the girls the gentlemen called it the initiation anl de- clared themselves ready for the second rlegfce. All tl1e cooking and serving was done hy the girls of the various classes. Jan. 16, 1914. the musical talent of the High School gave an operetta entitled The XYindmills of Holland. Special scenery was painted for the occasion hy Mrs. Grace A.
