I 1, f 1 , , .f t lffif , 131 1?-ffl? DISCIPLESHIP means self-denial, cross bearing, and following Christ. The disciple has renounced self. He has affiliated himself with Holy Principles and Standards-thus all of his motivating purposes and energies are directed away from self, and he is clothed with the Spirit and Power of Christ. THE WORLD is our possession, if we reclaim it from Satan's con- trol. Upon the CROSS, the debt for every soul was cancelled. We must enforce Ca1vary's Claims and compel Satan's release of individuals and finances, and impel the continuous building of Christ's Kingdom within hearts. After Christ's ascension, the disciples were resonsible for the evan- gelization of the WORLD. The evangelization of the present WORLD depends upon the readiness of true discipleship. What if the disciples had failed after the giving of the Great Commission QMatt. 28:21J? What if we fail after the promise of indwelling of the Dynamic Power? The compelling inward drive forces us into the regions beyond- into the darkened, untouched, unexplored areas of the globe. The love of God Constrainth Us Go? Go, we must! Great Commission Schools train young people to be loyal Ambassa- dors. These Ambassadors are nurtured in the principles of active faith, the study of the Word, and the practice of prayer. The courses have five main emphases: 1. Direct Study of the Bible Text. 2. Gospel Music. 3. World Missions. 4. Child Evangelism. 5. Personal Evangelism. Purslful, Mary Seekens, Forest Reger, Alfred Rusco, James McClain, Wallace Haines, William Chapman, Sr., I-I. Robb French, Arthur Tinkle, Delmar Harrold, E. R. Wilkinson, Fred R. Cox. For their sterling Christian character, For their sacrifice of time and untiring service, For their insistent, fervent prayers, For their progressive vision and unwavering faith, We sincerely dedicate this Crusader to the Board of Trustees of Great Commission Schools. Oh! the bitter shame and sorrow, That a time could ever be, When I let the Saviour's pity Plead in vain, and proudly answered 'All of Self and none of Thee! Yet He found me: I beheld Him Bleeding on the cursed tree g Heard Him pray, 'Forgive them, Father,' And my wistful heart and faintly - 'Some of Self and some of Thee! Day by day His tender mercy, Healing, helping full and free, Sweet and strong, and oh! so patient, Brought me lower while I whispered - 'Less of Self and more of Thee! Higher than the highest heavens, Deeper than the deepest seag Lord, thy love at last has conquered: Grant me now my soul's petition - 'None of self and all of Thee! To the Students of Great Commission Schools - It is said that when Spain was one of the great world powers, upon her coinage was printed the image of the Pillars of Hercules, and under- neath were the words, Ne plus ultra -nothing beyond this. There was one man in that nation who refused to accept this. Urged on by the rest- lessness of his faith, he proved that an entire world, with unlimited treas- ure and wealth, lay beyond those pillars of Hercules. It has been well said that the essence of carnality is a static condi- tion, spiritual stagnation. There is no reason why any of us should not be world shaking characters, except that we are satisfied not to be. J. Stuart Holden tells of the epitaph of a Swiss Guide who lost his life in an Alpine accident. That epitaph reads, He died climbing . It is our prayers that God shall use Great Commission Schools to impart to you such faith-born aspiration that wherever your tombs may be, from the artic to the tropics, your only fitting epitaph may be He died climb- ing. 'Tis yours to keep it burning bright, Yours to pass on when you no more need lightg For there are other feet that we must guide, And other forms go marching by our side. Their eyes are watching every smile and tear And efforts which we think are not worthwhile, Are sometimes just the very helps they need, Actions to which their souls would give most heed, So that in turn they'll hold it high And say, I watched someone else carry it this way. If brighter paths should beckon you to choose, Would your small gain compare with all you'd lose? Hold high the torch! You did not light its glow- 'Twas given you by other hands, you know. Each semester we offer a different course so that a variety of training for the layman is made available. One of the most widely accepted courses ever offered was the class in Gospel Art offered first semester of this year. Rev. Noble Bodenhorn showed unusual ability not only in personal performance but also as an instructor. Many of the fifty registrants were putting their instruction into practical use in youth meetings long before the close of the semester. The chalk work which each student brought in on the closing night when each was analyzed and construotrisfeglyhcriticized showed unusual achievement. ' i The Sunday School Workshop offered the second semester under the able leadership of Rev. Jack Stanley has been no less profitable. Sunday School oflicers and Youth leaders from the surrounding area have profited greatly from his store of successful experience as a Sunday School man. Registrations in the evening classes list many towns within a radius of forty to fifty miles of Anderson. And freed from sin and dearth. They are not ours this day, Because from here shall shine We hold them but for Thee The Light the world doth need, To build, to use, to point the Way. Oh God, what joy, what joy sublime Thine, thine, to always be. To plant for Thee the Seed God, grant that on this place So bless, we pray, this place, Thy blessings shall abide, And hallow tree and sod, Thy love, Thy peace, Thy light, Thy grace- And sanctify it by Thy grace Whatever may betide. ' 1 J'U'aQikfl! .dmh . - if OUR NEWEST BUILDING The fastest growing department of Great Commission Schools, to date, is the graded department or Elementary School having reached a total enrollment this Hrst year of 49. To our surprise and almost dismay, we discover that the two rooms set aside for this department are already far inadequate to meet the need. Investigation by the President and the Board of Directors of Great Commission Schools disclosed the fact that all steel pre-fabricated build- ings of the Quonset type which are being widely used in Colleges and Universities adapt themselves beautifully to educational needs and are at least one-half cheaper to construct. Again this year, on our President's birthday, April 18, we broke ground for another new building, this time on the east side of the campus, directly in front of Pioneer Hall. A building birthday cake was planned with candles selling at 3100.00 each. By the end of the Birthday month we celebrated with cakes carrying 27 of the 55 candles desired by that time. This provided sufiicient funds with which to order the first unit of the planned building. At the present time the shell of the center section of the above sketch has been erected on Great Commission Campus. As the Lord provides, we plan to erect three or four class rooms before September to accomodate the Elementary school. This large center section provides ample chapel space and a 40 X 60 recreation room. The portable partition which separates these rooms may be removed for large annual events such as commencement and Youth Crusade. .v 'ul if '-: G , Ei -va ll- C 0 TQ an 0 L.
