The Bison went into the Edwards County Regional with a 14-11 record and shut out Cisne and Wayne City in order to advance to the finals to face Mt. Carmel. Despite a cut lip and a twisted ankle on Doug Cowling and Bryan Neeley, respectively, the Herd took a 59-51 win over the Aces. Michael Johnson hooped 16 to lead four Bison in double figures. Cowling connected for 15 and Dale Schmittler fired in 13, while Jeff Haywood added 10. Junior point guard James Buckman posted four big points, and sophomore quard Mark Stone added an important second quarter free throw. The night concluded with a police escorted parade, through Grayville with a procession of fans' cars praising the players and coach. As Coach Haywood hugged the regional plaque, he told the fans, âThis is for all the players who ever played here at Grayville High School.â 3 liiYif beperj Sheltie 'P'utfoAectf The year is 1997 and the scene is our class reunion. There are so many familiar faces. We just can't wait to see how all of our old classmates are doing. The first face we see is Melinda Anderson. She is now what she always dreamed of being: the commander-in-chief of the United States Army. With her are her favorite men. Marty Linder and Roger Gross. They have just returned home from war and couldn't miss this opportunity to see all their friends again. Oh. there's Mark Prather and Mike Knight! They are now touring the U.S. as Chippendale dancers. That sounds like something that they would do. We also got to talk to Kim Livingston. She is now President of Panama Jack and Co.!!! Way to go Kim! Since there were so many athletic people in the 1987 graduating class, we knew that there would have to be some of these people still out there playing their favorite sports. Mark Johnson, we all remember him as Smiley. is still wanting to go pro in basketball but just can't get a break. He is trying very hard though, to get his own line of shoes. Get this: AIR JOHNSON. We all hope that you get as far as you would like. The next one we see is Andy Pritchett. He is now the star player on the Olympic Volleyball team. He also has the highest vertical jump in the world ... 9 ft.!!! Well, there is Michael Johnson. He says he is now on the Boston Celtics basketball team. I see that he and Mark Johnson are really getting down and talking about basketball as usual. Dale Schmittler now plays baseball for the St. Louis Cardinals. He is their homerun hitter and has a batting average of .811!!! This is really a surprise!!! I mean we just can't believe this!!! We see JaVan York, Jeannie Spruell, and Kim Henshaw. We all knew them as the skinniest people in our class, but now it's unbelievable how much they have changed. Come to find out, they are now all three the owners of Just My Size pantyhose. Yes. old friends, they have each ballooned out to 250 lbs. a piece!!! We knew that their terrible eating habits would catch up with them some day. Kona Compton is now a Certified Public Accountant and she still resides in Grayville with her husband and son Tyler. But during the summer she lives in her penthouse on the beach down in sunny Florida. We also have just found out that she is expecting twins in about 5-months!!! All right, Kona!! Name them after us!! Another 87 graduate residing in Florida is Amy Ritchey. She works at NASA as a computer programmer. Debbie Mayes also lives down in Florida (part time anyway). She is an airline stewardess for Eastern Airlines and she is also a cruise director on the Love Boat. Where do you find the time to live in your house, Debbie? Kris Isbell is now Editor and chief photographer of the ever popular magazine ... PLAYGIRL!!! Bryan Neeley is her star model!! Austin Elliott who had not one inch of a butt while in high school is now the 1997 Mr. Universe!!! Michelle Sutton is now the new Michelle Sutton!! At one time she was 5 ft. tall, now she is 5'10 and the tallest model for Cosmopolitan. Tami Gubbins now has her own line of clothing which Michelle models for her. Tami calls them GUPPIES !!! We talked to Yvonne Reid and she is now fulfilling her high school dream as she cheers for the Chicago Bears football team. Well, Kim Waller hasn't changed that much since high school either. Sheâs just gotten bigger and better (???). She is now the head of the MAFIA in New York. Florida, and California. Shellie Monroe, the one who couldn't crack a smile during her high school years, is now doing commercials for Pearl Drops toothpaste!!! She really does have a pretty smile!!! Jack Shields is racing cars in the Indy 500. He races the blue flame and wins every time. Kenny Stone now owns and operates his own restaurant which is called Larry. Darrel. and Darrel's School of Opossum Cooking. We also found out that Sherri Jenkins is still married and is defending her title as the Queen of Mud-wrestling. Georgia Etzkorn is also still married and now has 3 children. David Cowling now runs his dad's farm which is the largest in the state. He now owns 7000 acres of his own!!! Julie Kleinschmidt now has her own shoe store Jule s Goldmine and Toni Koehler is the first woman to become a professional boxer. She just loves to fight those men with red hair!!! Well, the class reunion is over and it was truly a great success. It was nice to see how all of our old classmates are doing. Now it's time for me, Lisa Glover, to get back to my job as President of the ever popular Ohio Riverside Kentucky Fried Chicken and Yukon Jack Shoppe!!! And I, Jody Hill, will get back to hosting my own talk show, which by the way, has pushed Oprah Winfrey out of the ratings. It was good to see you all again and we can't wait to see you at the next class reunion!!! 10 Melinda Anderson: Chorus 1.2; GAA 1.3.4; Gusher Staff 4; Office Worker 4; Father Daughter Banquet 3; Senior Play 4.
