My Gift I cannot give you cloudless skies — A life that’s free from cares and sighs, But I can wish you a heart that sings And the thrill of discovering beautiful things ... I cannot give you wealth or fame, But I can wish you just the same, Laughter, Love ... Friendly faces ... And golden moments the heart embraces. THE YEAR THAT seemed like an eternity away has caught up with us. It is the year 1998, the year of our 15th class reunion. Finding this graduating class gets harder every year. Scott Graham, our class president, has devoted all of his time to the Boston Celtics. He is their star center. Our vice president, Kelly Hall, resides in Lynchburg, Tenn. She couldn’t attend because it’s the peak of the mellowing season at the Jack Daniel’s Distillery, which she now manages. Jean Ward, our secretary, remained loyal to Illinois. She now manages a men's dormitory at the University of Illinois. A few others still live in Grayville. Tom Potter and Marty Hyatt have made their names as famous surveyors. They broke the record by measuring the longest recorded distance, which happend to be around one of our more prominent teachers. Kent Spann, after receiving his schooling in Paris, returned to teach French at the high school. The school was recently renovated under the direction of Jackie Finch. It also runs much smoother now. The credit goes to the board members: Angie Camp, Shana Garman; Stacey Grimm; Kathy Lowery; Leigh Meritt; and Frankie Owen. Other classmates have broadened their horizons. Patty Haley, Tammy James, Ina Hensley, and Kathy Knight were signed with the Morman Tabernacle Choir after their singing career at GCHS. Michele Given and Tami Prather have kept the spirit of their high school days alive by cheering with the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders. Every year Michele returns to the Beta Club Convention at Springfield to recite her campaign speech. Hopefully someday she’ll remember it. We couldn’t locate Wayne or David Gish. Rumor has it that they escaped to Switzerland after getting caught stealing bases at the World Series. The world of baseball hosts one of our classmates. Dell Driggers was signed with the L.A. Dodgers. This led him to a career of doing Skoal commercials. Ronnie and Donnie Lingfelter have made a career in sports also. They can be seen on International Championship Wrestling every Sunday. Jimmie Hart wanted them to be part of his “family”, but the Lingafelters played too rough for them. Kim Malone, Bobby Taylor, and Mike Judge combined knowledge and skill and invented an indestructable motorcycle. Bobby and Mike race it, but Kim devotes his spare time to competing in demolation derbies. Some classmates went on to fulfill their life-long dreams. Robby Collins became the president of the National Coon Hunter's Association. Terry Garbo is now following a professional career in full-contact Karate. In his spare time, he runs a cricket farm in northern Illinois. By chance, we found Righard Mode. He was discovered at an REO Speedwagon concert playing lead guitar for them. Five girls have made our town and all ERA backers proud. Beverly Duke became the first woman to win the Indy 500. Her Mercury Monarch is kept in top shape by her pit crew, which includes Karen Shelton and Lisa Lydick. 26 A LOOK INTO THE FUTURE . . . Shawna Ely is a top mechanic in Kentucky. She specializes in working on Chevy trucks in the middle of the night. All of our classmates have achieved great accomplishments in their lives, yet Mary Blackford has achieved the ultimate goal. She is residing at the White House as the first vxpman president of the United States. Danny Brines is her personal secretary. Although many members of the 1983 graduating class couldn’t attend the reunion because of conflicting schedules, it was a great success. Mrs. President has invited us to Washington for next year’s reunion, so until then: Take care and keep in touch. 27 BABY FACE, YOU’VE GOT THE CUTEST LITTLE BABY FACE SAR DAR SCOTT GRAHAM JEAN WARD I to r: Shana Garman.
