CLASS HISTORY Nearly four years ago we the sen1ors of the present year took our places as fr1ghtened green Fresh1es 1n the Grayv11le Communlty H1gh School Forty mem bers constltuted our or1g1nal class and we elected the followlng members as our class off1cers Pres1dent Eleanor Mason v1ce pres1dent Robert Talbert secretary Elmer Goldsm1th treasurer Allene Stone After the boys had braved the terrors of the belt l1ne and the glrls the humlllty of havlng thelr faces smeared Wlth 11p st1ck we settled down to our stud1es Our sponsors Mr James E York and MISS Llla Buzzard helped us w1th many entertammg partles Our outstandlng achlevements of that year were the two assembly programs we presented The fxrst was a repro duct1on of a h1ll b1l1y weddlng complete w1th relat1ves br1de and groom and a corn fed m1n1ster The second program was 1n the form of a play Not Qulte Such a Goose As an added attract1on on that occaslon Ace Talbert accompan1ed gy a selected chorus sang as a solo a verse of the song Take Me Out to the Ball ame On enterlng our sophomore year we were thoroughly versed 1n the hardshlps of h1gh school llfe such as obey1ng the seem1nly Sllly wh1ms of our teachers and get t1ng to school on tlme Our class had been reduced to th1rty flV6 members Thls year our sponsors were Mr James Marberry and Mr Robert F1ck who are now wlth the armed forces For our class off1cers we elected Bob Talbert pres1dent Phyll1s Hancock VICE pres1dent and Eleanor Mason secretary and treasurer Our Jumor year held many struggles 1n store for us but we met them bravely The Jumor class play Spr1ng Fever drrected by our sponsor Mrs Martha Wolver ton was a very successful undertakmg Our class then had th1rty seven members Earl Acker had the honor of 1ead1ng us as pres1dent Betty Tlpton as VICE pres1dent Eleanor Mason secretary and Allene Stone treasurer The prom and banquet m an authent1c Mexlcan settmg FCCCIX ed much pra1se from all persons present Mary L1v1ngston was our student cou1c11 representat1ve We took our seats as sen1ors on September 1 1944 w1th a feelmg of very glieat lmportance and super1or1ty From the rema1n1ng thlrty three members of our class we elected the followmg members as class off1cers Earl Acker pres1dent B111 Adam son VICC pres1dent Juanlta Juan secretary and Betty Tlpton treasurer Our class play Thumbs Up under the excellent superv1s1on of our sponsor MISS E Wave Jamerson was presented on Apr11 13 1945 The student counc1l members thls year were Allene Stone and Frank Fmch The most outstand1ng party of the year was the Valentlne party glven on Febru ary 14 for the class and faculty Each year a sen1or glrl IS g1V6I'1 the D A R award wh1ch IS based on c1t1zensh1p 1No one deserved It more than the one to Whom It was awarded Phyl11s Hancock Dur1ng our four years of h1gh school 11fe e1ght of our Orlglnal members have entered some branch of the serv1ce Those now servmg our country are Dav1d L1v mgston Navy Kenneth Potter Army Bernard Sm1th Navy Gerald Carter Army, Elmer Goldsm1th Navy George Sm1th Army Gene Sm1th Navy and Earl Spann Navy A banquet and prom sponsored by the 3un1or class m our honor on May 12, afforded us an evenmg of excellent enterta1nment W1th the aCt1V1tl9S of class day Baccalaureate and Commencement exerc1ses completed the most enJoyab1e days of our hves were fulfllled HIGH SCHOOL We the sen1ors of 1945 s1ncere1y hope that the on commg classes will be as fortunate as we have been ELEANOR MASON 1 ' 1. - 11 1 - - - ' 1 . . . 1 ' I 1 1 1 1 1 . 1 1 1 . - . 1 . 1 , . . 1 .
