CLASS HISTORY In the fall of 1940 fifty six bashful but good looking freshmen took up thexr school life at the Grayville High School Florence Bowman was elected president Mary Weigant vice president Doris Sullivan secretary and Don Blackford treas urer Mr Eugene Brumm and Miss I ila Buzzard were our sponsors During the first semester an initiation party was held ln our honor at the gvm nasium Guests and teachers were cordially invited The following fall only thirty nine sophomore students resumed their school at Grayville High School Don Hearsum was elected president Don Blackford vice president and Colleen Webster secretary treasurer Mr Golden Flake and R G Fick were our sponsors The sophomore class d1StlHgLllSh6d itself as an up and coming class by having eleven members in the band three members and one quai tct played at district and sectional contest and one solo in the state some of the boys we e on the basketball teams and we were well represented in many other actiuties The fall of 1942 brought back 37 members, several of whom we lost during the year Carl Bradshaw had the honor of leading us as president of the class Don Blackford vice president, Evelyn Daugherty secretary and Nelle Cross treasurer Vernita Crawford was a great success Another means of raising money for the Jumor Senior Banquet and Prom was selling pencils and magazine subscrmptions The Prom m a Dutch Garden setting with w1ndm1ll and tulips, received much praise from all those present Entering the high school as dignified seniors 1n 1943 vue found that school life still held surprises for us There were now only twenty seven of us in our last year Claude V Williams was elected presldent vice president Kenny Hearsum sec retary Betty Ann Mode and treasurer Rose Jarboe Each year a semor girl IS given the D A R award which is based on citizenship patriotism lovalty and dependability We were very glad that Betty Ann Mode received this honor The most outstanding party of the year was the Chr1stmas party planned by the SCIIIOIS for the class and faculty It was a true Christmas party in spirit and festivlty Another of our accomplishments this year was a basketball queen from our class Her majesty Laura Mae Broster led her court with a dignity and honor befitting a queen Our senior class play, Almost Eighteen directed by Miss E Wave Jamerson our sponsor was well received by an appreciative audience A Mexican Banquet and Prom sponsored by the Juniors in our honor gave us excellent entertainment on the evening of May 12 Class day the Baccalaureate and Commencement exercises completed the most engoyable period of our lives HIGH SCHOOL We, the seniors of 1944, only hope that the on coming classes will be as fortunate as we Evelyn Daugherty Wary J Weigant O y - . . . . , . - . 5 '. . .V , 3 , X - 4 . .
