Vikings Tie Victory Record Grayson tied the school victory record on Feb. 17 , with a hard fought 62-55 win over rival Cooke County. The Vikings at 20-8, tie the win mark of 20 games set in the 1966-67 season. Several steals were executed in an attempt to slow down Cooke's strong start which claimed an 18-16 advantage with 10 minutes left in the first half. Grayson rallied with a press by Gray and Sweetin scoring 30 and 26 points. Grayson hit a hot 80 of 63 shots from the floor in addition to out rebounding Cooke, 46-3.2. Player Brent Sweetin ripped the net with 18 points, Scott Gray totaled 14 points, and Vernon Krueger tossed in 18 points. LL Coyofes Corner GCC A pressure type man-to-man defense and a slow second half spelled trouble for the Vikings as they dropped an unfortunate decision of 67-55 to Weatherford. The Vikings got off to a strong start in the first half against a zone defense which let them jump to a ten point lead. The visitors then switched to a man-to-man defense that gave Grayson fits the rest of the evening. The Weatherford defense began to work and so did their offense, leaving GCC with a 22-13 deficit at the begin- ning of the second half. Later the visitors put together another spurt and outscored Grayson 20 to 12 in the final 10 minutes to ice the confer- ence game. Grayson Neis Homecoming Win Grayson delighted a large homecoming crowd here by bouncing Paris 81-69, in a non-conference game which gave Grayson a 19-8 record for the season. Grayson scored the first bucket and that was as close as Paris came in the game's remainder, as the Vikings blitzed to a 13 point lead early in the first half and coasted to a 31-18 intermission advantage. Paris came no closer than 9 points in the second half 3 thus the Vikings were in the clear. Fouls hurt both teams with Grayson claiming 28 while the Dragons were tagged for 22. The game's strongest scorers were Scott Gray with 22 points, Vernon Krueger with 14 points, and Warren Miller, with 14 points. Coach Buddy Travis gives the Viking players a pep talk.
