Hoedown Ends Wesrern Week The culmination of Western Week was the crowning of queen Becky Lawrence by sheriff Delbert Thomas. Many different steps were shown off by the throng of dancers in attendance . 26 l The Silver Wings Club offered students a lot of room for danc- ing. n, 'ii Mr' , A member of the band Rush played lead guitar for the dance .

Sigma Sfampedes Cver FCA During the annual Western Week festivities, 15 clubs sponsored events which ranged from tobacco spitting to cow chipchunking. For a small fee students could enter any or all of the events which included: tobacco spitting, root beer drinking, tricycle race, egg race, cigarette rolling, bike race, potato sack race, quickdraw, stretcher race , foot race , mini bike race , and cow chip chunking. The overall western week winner is determined by the club that totals the most number of points by placing in the various contests. Sigma beat out the Fellowship of Christian Athletes 103 points to 93 points. Delbert Thomas was sheriff during the week, and Becky Lowrance of Soper, representing the Rodeo Club, won the penny-a-vote battle for Western Week Queen, collecting 58160 in her win- ning effort. Adding to the Western Week Activities is roundup night, which takes on a carnival atmos- phere with games such as dart throw, dunking booth, sponge throw, pie throw, ring toss, basket- ball toss , and marriage booth.
