Cheerleaders Promoie Viking Spirif The Viking Cheerleaders are: left to right, bottom row, Jerri Alberding, Betsy Jackson, Sharon DeVau1tg top, Linda Elliot, Marie Brown, and Leska Blevins. Sophomore cheerleaders at- tended a National Cheerleader Association workshop at SMU in Dallas. Betsy Jackson and Marie Brown were picked among the top squads at the workshop. Out of the 38 college squads attending they received 3 blue ribbons for their achievements . Selection of freshman girls this year was made by a team of cheerleaders from ETSU for the second time. The girls were coun- selled by the sophomore cheer- leaders to help improve their mechanics. They were judged on ability, eye contact and leader- ship. The girls participate in the selection of drill team captains and junior and senior high school cheerleaders. Besides performing -1 ,rw their regular duties as cheerlead- n ers at athletic functions away from home, the girls were active in clubs and some held part-time jobs during the basketball season. fr . 4 T. A slide show for all interested students and faculty is presented by the club once a month. Other activities planned for this semester are field trips to Canton, on Trade Day, and Platt National- Park, in Oklahoma. Both trips are planned for the spring.
