Although, beginning and only Winning four out of seven dual meets, the team came in strong to win the FXS conference meet by scoring 55 points. Lead- ing the Way were Sophomoreszj. Moran. 196 1 VARSITY TRACK The 1961 Varsity Track squad was again crowned Conference Champs for the second year in a row, and for the third time in the past four years . They Won 9 meets while dropping 2 . Besides Winning the conference they placed third in the county meet, fourth at Elmwood Park relays and fourth in the Palatine relays . Individual Conference Champions were: John Matthiessen - 880 Herb Ehnert - Discus The mile relay team was composed of Matthiessen, Keller, Avery and Led- Vina. Birong. THEY DID IT AGAIN! This year's Varsity not only brought home the sixth Base- ball title in eight years, but their record of 12 wins and 2 defeats broke the pre- vious record of ll Wins and 3 defeats, which was established in 1955 and tied in 1960. Co-Captain Bill Baker, and Co-Captain Chad DeZurik and Denny Williams were selected to the Tribune All-Conference team. The team participated in a no-hit, no-run game pitched by Williams against Wauconda on May 16. Sixteen boys were awarded letters, and Denny Williams and Jose Bermudez were elected Co-Captains for the 1962 Season. Don Vutera was the team's leading hitter.
