Krieger As Juniors, we are looking forward for a successful way of finishing our career at Grayslake High School. This year has been the best for the Class of '63. We began the year by Winning first place, for the second year in a row, on the Homecoming Float. The next victory was Winning the annual Clothing Drive with 2100 pounds of clothing. Our play, Personal Appearance , broke all re- cords for previous plays by having the largest audience. Another memorable event was the arrival of our class rings. The highlight of the year, however, was the Junior Prom and all the juniors worked hard to make it one of the best. 32 44H '!'ifP iYE4 '9 : UN Craig Cora Lee Chris joan Ruth Alderton Alkofer Anast Anderson Augron jean IOAII-H Donna Terry Susan Avery Back Bardo Beahan Bellgrau Judy Peter Karen john Beverly Bessler Bolender Booknis Browne Bura Marilyn Janine John Peggy Lynn Burge Carlson Carlson Carlson Chmelir Robert Anne John Thomas Joe Clark Cole Cummings Darbro Dichman 34 x NX M. lf raw N, ,Ra Q i A ' ,sgi .6 ,ac .. We had to adapt ourselves to the new system and different ways . Losing to the Conference Champs, ,Lake Forest, in the last 90 seconds was certainly a heart- breaker but exemplified the true character of this '61 squad. Since their hard, aggressive football play- ed in this game and throughout the season would be difficult to equal. The squad grew stronger with each game as is indicated by the scores of our last two games. Our only regret is that the season ended too soon. Co-Captain: D. Fricke R. Early in the season the Rams beat Grant and Antioch. but then fell to Warren With three of the first five games under their belt, they opened the Grayslake Holiday Tournament against McHenry, losing the eventual champs 94-84. In the consolation bracket the Rams dropped Deerfield and Dundee to win consolation honors. Following the Christmas holidays, the Rams defeated Wauconda before losing to Round Lake and Lake Forest on successive weekends. They then pro- ceeded to win the next six games including a 76-55 win over Warren. Going into the final week of play, the Rams needed two wins to take the title. However. the Rams blew their return game with Round Lake 86-76. A 66-59 win over Lake Forest ended conference play. In the regional opener at Wauconda, the Rams watched Cary-Grove make their way into the finals 63-61. The Rams attach was featured by a fast breaking offense, which averaged 73 points in Conference play. The first five consisted of 8 players of which any five could operate as an effective team, with the tall boys, Hawkins. Alderton and Williams, rebounding under both baskets, and Parker. Pickett, Melin. Weller, and Stone dominating the floor play, the Rams gave every opponent all they could handle. Hawkins, Parker, and Williams were awarded positions on the All-Confer- ence Team. Don Hawkins and Denny Williams were voted by their teammates as the most valuable player and honorary captain respectively. Hawkins. Williams. Parker, Melin, Picket and Weller wrote A finis to their outstanding high school basketball careers. This season climaxed the most successful season the Rams have had. In addition to winning the Grayslake Consolation trophy, the second place conference finish of 10-4 and the over-all season total of 15-7 were both school records. For the first time the total attendance of the three nights of production totaled over 1000 theatre goers. It was the largest audience to date of any play held at the high school. Another factor that helped make the play a great hit was the addition of live music. A thirty piece orchestra under the direction of Mr. Kessinger of the music department provided music as a mood background and during intermissions. The male leads of the play were portrayed by Richard Kader and Paul Harders. The feminine lead was played by Vivian Sauer.
