CONTENTS FACULTY SENIORS UNDERCLASSES ACTIVITIES ATHLETICS Dedication We, the Beta Club, proudly dedicate our 1956 edition of “Chayel Memories” to Mrs. Vivian W. Caudle, a friend who loveth at all times. Through her associa- tion with faculty and students we have learned the valuable lesson of the hour glass. As the grains of sand drop one by one and regulate the passage and measurement of time, it reminds us to learn to do one thing at a time; to live one moment at a time and to face one problem at a time. Her calmness and poise have taught us the value of a well balanced, happy, and useful life. With this lesson of the hour glass, life with its unlimited opportunities and possibilities should be more securely ours.

Foreword Life has placed a deposit in the bank of time for each of us, and not one knows what his balance is. In this edition of “Chapel Memories” for 1956, we the staff hope that we have provided a pictorial record of time spent at Grays Chapel High School. The time of our school life may be budgeted into four areas, work, play, love and worship. Our teachers have constantly urged us to “Make the most of your time.” Work is our chance to make our mark in history, to fit into God’s scheme, to give as well as to receive. Time for play brings in the possibility of recreation of muscle, mind and spirit. It breaks the routine of concentration. Through love we learn the highest use of every hour. Love will come the nearest to halting time. It lends beauty to the greatest aeon of time—eternity. Love banishes time that is old and creates eternal youth in the heart of one who loves. Worship is so often forgotten when considering the budget of time. Have we wondered why men look out beyond the bounds of visible life with questing minds? We are not alone. There is a temporal presence in our lives which is there to lift us, not crush us. We find the answer in the experience of worship. If we have learned to look for kindness, goodness, honesty, and truth, along the way, we can go forward with the hope and expectation to fill our lives with happiness and service. Our tempo of life will be defined by the application of our time as cherished in Grays Chapel High School. In our “Chapel Memories,’ Mr. Otus Thomas has played the important role of Time Keeper. He has found the time to be helpful, to inspire, and foresee the possibilities of the good in all of us. May time, lifes’ most precious gift, prove to him without question, that his investment of time in each of us has been well spent.
