FOREWORD “After all, the rose is the thing The past twelve years the Gray’s Chapel High School has been the green- house that has nurtured the growth of the class of nineteen hundred and fifty- four. Mr. Otus C. Thomas, the caretaker, and his faculty gardeners have lovingly supervised its growth from the tiniest bud to the full-blown rose. Our class flower, the rose, symbolizes our class spirit and personality. As the poet has said: “Across the shining road of time, A fragrant flower chart, God sent a rose for every clime, A rose for every heart.” The gift of courage for achievement, and the hope for peace and service to our fellowmen that we have cultivated and learned to encourage in our school years will be our tribute to the challenge of one who: “When blossoms flower’d mid the snow, Upon a winter night, was born the child, The Christmas Rose, The King of love and light.”
