emor C arm Aalory 1941 1953 September nuneteen hundred forty one found twenty four brught eyed youngsters lust steppung across the threshold of Gray Court Owungs unto an enturely new lufe Muss Louuse Roper guuded us wuth unfunute patuence over the furst tryung days weeks and months of a b c s and 'I 2 3 s Through her excellent work we learned more and more and by munglung wuth other types of chuldren became ready for school lufe Before we hardly knew ut the furst year was over and we were un the second grade wuth Muss Ida Lee Brodue She added gradually to our luttle store of knowledge and calmly smoothed the luttle duffucultues and lealousues whuch would aruse Muss Vurgunua Reud was our thurd and fourth grades teacher She untroduced and trauned us un wrutung and carrued us stull farther un readung and aruthmetuc ln the fufth grade under Mrs S C Gambrell we started composutuon wuth a paper on Robunson Crusoe We also advanced un aruthmetuc and enuoyed the spellung matches we held on certaun days Thus year too we made a trup to Clemson College wuth the suxth grade Mrs James Owungs was our suxth grade teacher We took South Caroluna Hustory and made scrap books on the subuect We had a taste of publuc school musuc from Mrs Louuse Gray who taught puano The summer passed and lo' the day had arruved We were un hugh school Mrs Dot Gray was our sev enth grade teacher and we also had Mr Furman Weathers for Aruthmetuc and Mrs Vurgunua Hendrucks for Englush We enloyed the varuety of changung classes and the dufferent teachers Several new pupuls came un from the Eden and Greenpond grammar schools Mr Weathers was our eughth grade homeroom and Math teacher At the end of the year we went to Parus Mountaun State Park for a class pucnuc The day was rauny and cold but we had a good tume anyway Thus year our furst annual was publushed by the Senuor Class and the day was very excutung when we receuved them Page Twelve tu Agaun un the nunth grade we had Mr Weathers for our homeroom teacher The gurls took Home Econo mucs under Mrs Emuly Busbee and the boys had Agruculture under Mr S C Gambrell For our class pucnuc thus year we went to Greenwood Lake We enuoyed fushung roastung weuners and marshmallows The tenth grade was a contunuatuon of Agruculture and Home Economucs Mr Corky McCorkle taught us Buology Mr W L Eptung untroduced us to Alge bra Mrs Everette Bobo was our homeroom teacher Mrs Louuse Gray was our Junuor sponsor We were very busy makung money for the Junuor Senuor gave a play for our mauor prouects The Junuor Senuor was a great success Everyone enloyed ut and we Junuors breathed a sugh of reluef when ut was over Here ut us all too soon our last year us about over What we ve worked and hoped for through the past eleven years us now a realuty The new school system brought un many new pupuls from neughborung communutues We had lots of fun gettung ads for our annual but ut was work and we were glad when ut was over Agaun we were try ung to make money thus tume for our Washungton trup We sponsored such prolects as sellung candy and plastuc products and agaun gave a play We enuoyed the Junuor Senuor and apprecuated the efforts spent by the Junuors for our good tume Now graduatuon tume has come wuth only four of the orugunal twenty four furst graders un the grad uatung class of nuneteen Those coveted duplomas wull soon be un hand and we shall go out unto the world Some look forward to college next September and others wull secure 'obs Whatever the future holds for us we shall always look back wuth fond memor ues to our hugh school days JOYCE SIMPSON Hustoruan 1 ' f - l - P' uf ' 4 Yi 1 .
