Foreword SIMON GRATZ HIGH SCHOOL was opened in Seplember, l927, and dedi- caled on Armislice Day, I928. Ils gray calhedral-lilce slruclure and high lowers are impressive. I+ is buill of yellow-gray brick and slyled afler English Golhic archileclure. Gra+z accommodales 3.500 Io 4,000 sludenls. I+ is equipped for academic, commer- cial, mechanic arfs, home economics, and induslrial course sludenls. The building has a line audilorium, library, gymnasiums, lunch rooms, and locker rooms. As we grew. we organized a Sludenf Government excellenl alhlelic leams, and a nolable school paper, The Sporlighlf' Our Iirsf principal, Mr. J. Elwood Calhoun, served unlil his dealh in l938. Under Dr. E. Carl Werner, our presenl principal, lhe school has conlinued lo grow, develop- ing a friendly and cooperafive spiril. This compeTiTion was open To any GraTz High School graduaTe and To The Mural Class oT The Tyler School oT Fine ArTs oT Temple UniversiTy.
