Our Students Association, through the guidf ance of Mrs. Marion W. Wallace, has developed and expanded from an experiment into a well' organized, commendahle, and democratic school government. The Spotlight, our school paper, was lirst is' sued on Decemher 19, 1927. Sponsored hy Mr. Edgar bl. Williams, it has rapidly ascended the ladder of journalistic success, having heen awarded several merits of honor hy the Columhia Scholastic Press Conference. An annual anxiouslyfawaited event is Gala Night, our musical and dramatic entertainment. Each show has improved with the age and expe' rience of Gratz, Grat: is proud of her athletic teams and clulws for the line work they have all accomplished. We look with pride upon the record of our school and her graduates. With these high standards in mind, we leave Gratz anxious to carry on in the finest tradition of our alma mater. Gothic Entrance. llllll Slllllllll The erection of a high school to the memory of Simon Gratz, a philanthropist and educator, started in September, 1925. This Gothic structure was not dedicated until Armistice Day, 1928, although its doors had been open since September of 1927. The school is equipped with academic, commercial, scientific, and art classf rooms, gymnasiums, student and teacher dining rooms, a library, and an auditorium. J. Elwood Calhoun was the principal of the school from its opening until his death, February 8, 1938. Shortly afterward the principalship was placed in the capable hands of Dr. E. Carl Weriier, formerly of the Gratz faculty.

As you leave high school, you face a perplexing and dillicult world. The fundamental and profound changes which are now taking place will not he clearly seen and understood for many years. It is only from the vantage point of time that we can look hack to the important periods in history and more accuf rately evaluate the significance of the forces which directed the current of world progress. A world at war hrings great physical dangers. Far more serious, however, may he the insidious 3' if 3 1 Principal attack on your morale hy harmful propaganda, To meet the ordeals and strains which lie ahead you will need to he fortified hy the discipline and spiritual strength of a line character.
