USHERS' ASSOCIATION Seated: Jessie Stone, Janet Topham, Albert Jones, May Henry, Muriel Salidor. Second row: Richard Bowman, Miriam Sichel, Ruth Zollers, Walter Camenisch, Inez jones, Bernice Grancell, Herbert Marcus. U ' Ass ciation NH of the finest and most representative eharaeteristies of American demoeraey is voluntary serviee for the benefit of the community. And perhaps the organ- ization in Gratz whieh best symbolizes this spirit of cooperation and willingness to help is the Ushers' Assoeiation. Under the guidauee of Mr. Strouse and Mr. Kuykendall. the Ushers have eome to be known as an honor group in the sehool. It is the one organization whiell represents Gratz not only at sehool affairs. but also at other events held in our audi- torium. Thus. the Ushers represent Gratz in all its phases to all who ehanee to attend these gatherings. From various reports they have borne our standard on io loftier heights in the eyes of all visitors. lfsually new recruits enter in the early grades so that when they rcaeh the top they are readily able to aeeept the new and heavier responsibilities entailed by lead- ership. lfaeh year trained seniors depart. but the aneient forebodings of Mr. Strouse and Mr. Kuykendall seem to be vanishing as the new erop of leaders proves its guiding ability. This term. as 2-L--L0 leaves. the Ushers will lose eapable Al Jones as Head llsher and his assistants. Janet 'l'opham. Marjorie Ivalsh. May Henry. and Jessie Stone. not to speak of the other zealous seniors. Yet, it will all remain with them- that first grand rush as the doors opened. the tip-toeing up and down the aisles. the noisy late-eomers. and the great fun in the S. A. Ofliee during intermission. They know that the Ushers' Assoeiation. in the true Ameriean spirit. will earry on with- out themf-but some of that zest. that jolly humor, that spirit of 2-I-40 will be gone. Tween fy-sffzvw:
