Gathering momentum from their active Sophomore year, this class of 56 boys and 57 girls rolled along to greater glories with their many activities as Juniors. Their semiformal Christmas dance, Winterland , was well planned and decorated, as was their very successful Junior Prom, Shangri-la . The class participated wholeheartedly in all school affairs and handled many concessions at games. Many Juniors participated in the different sports, and several were members of Chapter 7 of the California Scholarship Federation. Always there with helpful suggestions and encour- aging words were Miss Emma White and Miss Dorothy Dyke, their advisors. May they go ever onward toward the goal of graduation day with their banners waving! Presidenf ROBERT PICKTHALL ORLO STEELE JOE O'LEARY 'W'-... Class of l95I Not to be surpassed by any of the other classes is the class of -1951. After completing a successful Freshman year, they were back again to add to their laurels. Members of the class excelled in football, basketball, baseball, and track, and triumphed by retiring the Junior Varsity Football Cup. Many of the girls were members of such organizations as Drum Corps, Drill Team, Maiorettes, and G.A.A. ' Their big social event was their Sophomore dance, For Away Places . The class had eight members in the Scholarship Federation. Under the capable leadership of their officers, and with the advice and help of Miss Maxine Sleeper, they added to their coffer from concessions at various sports events. Presidenf WARREN CRESSWELL Camera Shy BOB TRATHEN Class of I952 A promising crop of neophytes got off to a good start in the Frosh initiation, often going under, but coming up for more. Carrying the same spirit through other activities, the Freshman Class turned in a commendable record, in fitting in to the G.V.H.S. picture. February 2 was the date they chose to present their Freshman assembly, introducing talent from the Class of '52 to the rest of the school. The social event of the year, from the Freshman standpoint, was their annual dance held May l3. In their Social Science classes, they have studied various countries of the world, and have been exchanging correspondence with school children in some of these foreign countries. The Frosh executives collaborated well with Mrs. Vera Ingram, their class advisor, in all their activities. FRESHMAN CLASS OFFICERS Foll Semester Wsxsnsilllil. We were able to field full teams in the league meet in all classes. Most of the squad will return next season. Propects for team championship next year are excellent. This year we were able to defeat Placer in dual competition in the B division. Our 8 team placed second to San Juan in both the Sierra Foothill Meet and San Joaquin Sectional Meets. Next year cross country meets will be scheduled with Placer, San Juan, Stockton, Sacramento, and Modesto. DAVID HUSON David proved to be our out- standing B trackman. David won the Sierra Foothill Cross Country Run. Next season Huson will team up with Barnhart on the A Team. BUD BARNHART Bud proved to be one of the outstanding cross country men in Northern California. Bud, o Junior, ran the two miles in less than eleven minutes in every meet during the season. Bud will captain the cross country team next year and will form the nucleus of a greatly improved team. 1948 Season Grass Valley produced the best track team in its history last year. Our 3 teams were undefeated in dual competition. They also won top honors in the Sierra Foothill League Meet and the Placer Relays. Our team also placed third in a field of more than 50 schools at the San Joaquin Con- ference Meet held in Lodi. I949 Track Squad JOE O'LEARY Track captain and president of the Spike Shoe Club. Joe 1949 Season Track is now established as a maior sport activity in our school. The turn- out for the T949 track squad nearly equaled the turnout for football. Re- turning lettermen give us a nucleus of a strong B team this year and better A teams this year and in the years to come. ROGER MONTRE specializes in the 220 and 880 relay.
