LCDR Brian C. Moum was born in Honolulu, Hl. He is a l99O graduate of the Pennsylvania State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering, and was commis- sioned through the NROTC program. After completing nuclear power train- ing and Surface Warfare School, he reported to USS TEXAS QCGN 399 as the Reactor Controls Division Officer. The ship conducted operations in the south and central Pacific, and was then decommissioned. His next sea tour was Electrical Officer in USS SOUTH CAROLINA QCGN 371, op- erating in the Caribbean and Atlantic. ln August 1995. LCDR Moum re- turned to NROTC PSU as an instruc- tor, where he taught Navigation, Sur- face Ship Operations, Leadership, and Sailing. He earned a Master's Degree in Environmental Engineering in Au- gust 1997. Following Department Head School, he reported to USS FORD tFFG 545 in Everett, WA as the Combat Sys- tems Ofticer, then to USS DWIGHT D EISENHOWER QCVN 691 as the Reactor Training Assistant. During this tour, the ship deployed to the Mediterranean and Arabian Gulf. After his department head tours, he served as a member of the Nuclear Propulsion Examining Board on the staff of the Commander, U. S. Atlan- tic Fleet. His military decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, the Navy Commendation Medal Cthree gold starsj, the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, and various unit and expeditionary awards.
