The best way to summarize this year centered around the school song. We closed the door on the past and unlocked another into the future. On the threshold of tomorrow . . Tomorrow looked very good. Some traditions remained, but even they caught the spirit of change. We'lI forget in joy our sorrow All the annual events. The Homecoming queen candidates were chosen by the entire school. A band of students decorated Main Street for the parade with crepe paper. ln disbelief, the sophomores watched the seniors win the spirit chain competition. Ten years after its origin, Goblin Day remained, but ghouls had to obey the dress code. Carpets were not ruined that way. But did anyone ever find the Haunted Hills Halloween night? More than any dance, enthusiasm spread for the Valentine semi-formol. Even graduation had a kick to it in the form of change. For nine months until that fateful May 81, 1987, we con- fronted our first 5A year and won. The remodeling brought us a Student Activities Center. Lunchtime announcements, twister, and trivial pursuit occurred while students ate at the salad bar. Hazing for the freshmen consisted of a coke party. KEGL dee- jayed the cheerleaders' steamy dance. The only thing missing were lockers. Carts, wagons, and backpacks solved the pro- blem. The gym acted as a catalyst to enthusiasm. We'll remember words of cheer . . Such as Boom Chico Boom and other Spirit Rustler creations. Garfield bedsheets covered students at the toga pep rally. While they sang Do we love her? Do we love her? Yes. When we could not accomplish goals on our own, the faculty guided us. Changes in the curriculum included Advanced Place- ment English IV, Biology ll, and American History. When on you we so depend . . pertained to faculty enthusiasm. The Clubs Mu Alpha Theta, Youth in Government, and Whiz Quiz saw their first year in existence. Swimming was added into the sport scene. Flat tops adorned the swimmers as they paddled on to victory. The senior class can reminisce changes most. We remember the Commons and life without House Bill 72. Traditions have en- dured: trading photographs of tuxes and feather drapes, pos- ing forthe senior class photo, and receiving Memory Books. We still refused to sell magazines although the officers threatened us with no prom. Projects for Canterbury Tales, unlike term papers, were fun. Our fourth year we won the float competi- tion. The last pep rally left us in tears as the seniors alone sang the school song. Some cried even more when we donated to the Blood Drive. This was the year that our peers were voted Most Likely, club officer, or captain. With our friends we re- painted the Spillwoy. After taking the SAT, college brochures plagued our homes. Thanks to the counselors, we sent in our college applications by deodline day. Due to teacher recom- mendations, many entered the college of our choice. Faculty discouraged students from taking Senior Release, but we re- fused to not use our privilege. This was the last year seniors were allowed to DOT take sixth period class. All in all we resembled other seniors that preceded us except for one thing: We graduated, not at Mustang Stadium, but at Texas Christian University. Grapevine, dear Grapevine, We're for you to the end. ' XMM llw,fW Not enough hugs, birthday cakes, or thank you's exist which could adequately express our appreciation to those extra people who worked so hard for us. Shumate, her gong of photographers, and the Roommate continue year after year to produce pictures for the Mustang staff. Thanks in the form of birthday hugs is bestowed upon the wise. wise Shumate for her endless advice, trouble-shooting, and encouragement, Thanks for always being for us to the end. -in The Mustang 1987 Grapevine High School Volume 71 .0-Mlm
