This page Sponsored by Mr. and Mrs. Howard Pinkerton page nineteen page twenty he enior froplzecg QFrom the Newark Advocate, May 28, 19555 Last evening, May 27, 1955, the Class of 1950 held its fifth annual reunion. The dinner was served in the Granville Inn at 7:00 o'clock. After a delicious meal, which was prepared by Audrey Billman, a varied program was presented by some of the talented graduates of 1950. This program featured a dance routine by Wilma Hannahs and operatic selections from the forth-coming debut of Joanne Hutchins. After the performance of the above mentioned girls, Mary Lou Williams showed us the lighter side of the arts by presenting a sketch of her own comedy show which is broad- casted nightly except Saturdays and Sundays over WCLT. Harriett Wells expressed the appreciation of the entire group by her estatic giggling after each joke. The spot light then turned on Carol Lantz and her orchestra featuring Carol on the violin. The re- mainder of the evening was devoted to a social gathering, which lasted until the wee hours of the morning. During this time many people were in for surprises, for example who would think that our own Bob Simross was the coach at Granville High School and that the Sammy Phillips was employed by the school as a full time mechanic to keep the driver training car in running condition. It seems that Bob has lost some of his best games due to the fact that the referee was Don Carlyle. During the course of the evening's chatter it was discovered that Dick Glover came all the way from Canada where he operates a fur trading post for the Dominion. We also found that Herbert Breymaier and John Lantz are joint operators of the Sally Jones Plantation, and that Mary Ellen Quick is in charge of their racing stables. It seems though you just can't beat them --they've won the Kentucky Derby for three consecutive years. Turn- ing for a moment to the fashion world, we learn that Joyce Bennett is now a. leading dress designer in New York and that Jessie Hodges is a fashionable hair stylist. It was also revealed that Marilyn Hiles is still trying to discover a newer and easier method of bleaching hair. ln checking up on the old familiar history class it was found that Martin Saunders is the Mayor of Granville. Alice Hutchins has progressed to the U. S. Am- bassadorship in Great Britian with Bruce Schilling heading her staff in the foreign service as a consulting lawyer. Two of the late arrivals were Jack l..eFevre and Ralph Young. Jack immediately announced that he has perfected a new drug soon to be marketed that was guaranteed to put pounds on anyone. Jack, as you must know, is one of the busy young physicians in the village. Ralph, whose chief interest still is in athletics, stopped over to attend the banquet while on a scouting trip as head trainer for the next world Olympic meet. A welcame break in the evening came when Rachel Collins kindly consented to play Onward Granville on her French Horn. Lela Piper was so inspired by the rendition, that she grabbed the nearest broom and quite forgetting herself in reveries of her high school position as head drum majorette. threw it over the chandilier. David Grant rushed up front with his familiar little black bag and put a penny in the fuse box, thereby restoring the lights. David was anxious that no one overlook his fiancee to whom he finally popped the question after seven years of going steady. While the crowd was still applauding, Maryan Francis came up led by her seeing- eye dog, to give us a sketch of her play, now current on Broadway. It was rumored that she lost her sight while writing, her last hit Qa tragedyj in a dim garret as she was unable to afford another candle. QOffernigs were left at the door.j After these interesting interludes, the gpests again started catching up on the news. Their eyes really weren't deceiving them when they beheld Joan McDaniel walk by with a diamond studded dress. She told her classmates she had made her fortune from a discovery of a freckle cream which had high vanishing qualities. Brad Stark and Ann Heckman Stark drew a great deal of attention, especially around l0:00 o'clock when they had to dash home to fix the bottles for their triplets. Ann remarked that she was looking forward to her children going to school because Sue Cooperrider is now head nurse in the new grade school building. Ann's only son is even now looking forward to photography in the new shop building. Helping her with the girl's clothes is Louise Collins, capable and popular local seam- stress. Sue Pinkerton entertains the Stark children on her Baby Hour at 11:00 o'clock every weekday morning over a national radio hookup. Those of the class who had thoughts of owning, their own home some day, have already consulted Bill Moore concerning building by submitting their ideas to his capable and attractive private secretary and assistant, Sara Hartman. Edith Young who always liked to pursue interesting cases is now ambulance chasing for that very successful attorney, Wayland Marlow. Wayland has not given up his interest in athletics, however, and his friend Ronnie Van Atta. who just hung out his M. D. shingle, is still waiting hopefully for Wayland as a patient. Mary Ellen Shields, who has just finished a hitch with the WAVES is the nurse in Van Atta's ofnce. Like most farmers, Kathryn Camp appeared late, after having. had to pace the brooder house at the last minute. The climax of the evening came when Don Femulee announced that he had it all over his classmates because he was still loafing. Pictures and snapshots were taken by Bob Deal before the business meeting was called by the one and only senior home room teacher, Miss Robinson. It was decided by the 1950 graduates to hold their next reunion in California so that Barbara Pheneger Jones might attend. The business meeting was then adjourned and all went home after a very enjoyable evening. page twenty-one page twenty-two he unior Klan OFFICERS President . ,,.. ....,.,..... . .. Bruce NVilliams . There were ten Juniors in the cast. Other members worked backstage, with make-up, tickets, publicity, and as ushers. Without their help the play would have been just a play instead of the real success that it was. The play was a mystery built around the scheme of a prominent doctor to rid of his step- daughter and gain control of her money. We have succeeded in putting out a small weekly paper which was very popular with the student body along with a periodic large paper. Our accomplishments this year were dug largely to the keen and responsible assistance of our adviser, Mrs. Lewis. Gayly dec- orated floats were used to show the changes from colonial times to the modern era in such things as the home, books, schools, dating, and music. A close and exciting game in the evening, with the presentation of the Queen and her attendents at half- time, proved a fitting ending to the 1949 Homecoming.
