AND VVHITII I 9 3 5 NELLIE RESSLER IN MEMORIAM We, the class of nineteen hundred and thirty-five, dedicate this edition of the Blue and White to our be- loved friend and classmate, Nellie Catherine Ressler, who departed from this life july 11, 1934. Although active in all school projects, she is per- haps best remembered for her basketball prowess. Nellie played the game of life much in the same way that she played basketball-a swift, clean battle, well fought and with no fouls-accepting victory without vanity and defeat without rancor. This year-book is published in her honor so that her memory shall not die but shall gain new life with each reading of this Blue and White. WE LIVE IN DEEDS, NOT YEARS. BLUE AND XVI HTF I 9 3 5 orewom' On a certain teacher's desk is a small clipping which reads: We are not here today to dream, to driftg We have hard work to do, and loads to liftg Shun not the struggle, face it, 'Tis God's gift. Nothing is ever accomplished with- out hard work and it is only by shoul- dering our share of it that dreams be- come realities. We are not going to be handed the fine, true things of life: we must earn them and show that we are worthy of such honors. Each day brings anew the conquest and each day's decisions should bring us a little nearer our ultimate goal and it is only by overcoming each day's problems that we are equipped with the next day's armor. BLUE AND WHITE 27 i I 93 5 BASKETBALL Granville's haskethall teams this year possessed two very line records at the end of the season. The hoys. swinging through the regular season in line style, and maintaining their stride in hoth the county and the central district tournaments, came through with a second place in the county and were able to go to the quarter-finals in the district tournament. During the regular season, the games in which the Blue Aces looked the hest. were the Pataskala and Alexandria frays, while memories of llehron and Hanover seem the most dismal to Granville followers. The first game at the county tourna- ment with Pataskala was also a star in the crown of the local lads. Granville's feminine Blue Aces experienced a very thrilling as well as success- ful season, losing hut two games out of eleven played, to capture third place in the county. Two games never to he forgotten were the Hehron and Alexandria con- tests in which the lassies were ahle to harely overcome their foes hy a one point margin. The girls looked hest against Pataskala and llanover, winning from the former hy a twenty-one to live count and from the latter hy the overwhelming score of thirty-one to nine. At the All-County Banquet. held at Johnstown at the close of the season, -lohn jones won a place as a forward on the Hrst all-county quintet, while Katherine Young won a similar position as guard on the girls' team. Ben Montgomery was selected as captain of the second team, while lVarren Perry and Betty Taylor re- ceived honorahle mention. .-Xt the local haskethall hanquet given to the memhers of hoth squads hy their mothers, six girls and six hoys were awarded letters along with the two managers. Boll Stuart and Marv, lean Atkinson. Thev were: Dorothy Frazier, Ruth fleil, Nlahel Piper, Betty Taylor, Katherine Youngi Pauline Palmerg Dick jones, XYoody Rupp, Ben Montgomery. John jones.
