This is the story of my life after graduation from Grantsville High School. These past ten years have brought me happiness and success. After long hours of studying voice I have achieved my goalg I am now singing with the Metropol- itan Opera Assosciation. My wife is the soprano soloist and it was through her inspiration that I have reached these heights. And now it is vacation time. I regret that my wife can not join me but her vacation will not be until later. So it is with professionals! As the conductor shouted, nAll aboardin I entered the train and started down the aisle. A brief case caught my eye The name sounded familiar, HDaniel Dudley Hershberger Ins ' ance Company I took the only empty seat in the coach and recognized my classmate, Danny He told me he has been mar ried to his school day sweetheart, Mary Glotfelty, for five years and they are now the proud parents of Dudley Jr and little Mary The family wasn't along on this tr1p because they stayed home to take care of Dan's Rabbitry The conductor announced a one hour stop in Washington, D C and I decided to spend my time window shopping I took a taxi to the heart of the city As I passed the NPalais Royalu the couple coming out called my name Mr and Mrs Dean Brenneman, the former Miss Zona Kinsinger, met my sight Dean was loaded down with dress and hat boxes and Zona was smiling and gaily waving her hand They invited me out to their apartment for dinner and I discovered that Zona is keeping house while Dean is working with his brothers in the U apital ons ruction Company Zona informed me that alot of my classmates are livlng and working here in Washlngton, D C and we decided to invite them over for a game of Canasta I postponed my trip until morning Anna Broadwater and Betty Buckel were among the first to arrive I soon saw the flash of a diamond on Betty's left hand and Anna told me she marrled her boss last month Her husband arrived later after finlshing up his income tax papers Anna and Betty have been working for the F B I and have a promising future Helen Otto and her husband, Paul Hetrick, drove over a little later from their suburban home at Woodlawn Helen is secretary to the Governor of Maryland at Annapolis Next day, on a train speeding through Ohio I noticed a sign while watching the scenery, HCanton, The City of Oppor tunity ' I went to the information desk in the depot and whom should I see but Harold Jenkins We were discussing Hhigh school daysn when Harold's glance traveled to a beau tiful young lady entering the door Turnlng my head, I re cognlzed her to be WJu1ieU the girl he brought to the Jun1or and Senior Prom 'P 111'- If O Q? During my three-day visit with Harold and their elaborate home we really npainted the town.n play at the theater featured NThe Stars of Tomorrow inside and the usher showed us to our seats. The was playing some jazz. The drummer was none other Julie in The stage U We went orchestra than Paul Clark, who received his training in the Grantsville High School Band. The curtain opened and the spotlight was focused on a beautiful dancer in a black satin costume. We think it ----- yes, it is Shirley Kiester. We went backstage after the show. Shirley and Paul told us they have been travelling together and their next appearance was booked for Maryland Theater in Cumberland. Bim Walker and Harry Leckemby were patiently waiting for Shirley. Which will she choose to- n g . As we were leaving the theatre I noticed a girl sweetly smiling at me, whom I did not recognize at first. I looked again and found to my amazement it was Roberta Bailey. we noticed there was a gentleman standing by her side. After talking with her, I learned that she married shortly after graduation and now has four charming little girls. Evelyn Durr was babysitting for her. Roberta invited us over to her little bungalow on the outskirts of town. We saw an Oldsmobile with Maryland license plates sitting out front. What a surprise! Don Wengerd had come to spend the weekend with them. I left Ohio, crossed Lake Erie, and went sightseeing in Canada I planned that one of the highlights of my trip would be my visit with Dick Bender and Shirley Kamp I at tended their lovely wedding several years ago and have kept in touch with them since Whlle they were high school sweet hearts they visited Ontario, Canada and found it to be an en chanting and romantic spot Dick has bu1lt a successful pro fesslon and there they have built the home of their dreams Evening was drawing nigh as I approached the Hotel Nia gara After paying the taxi driver I spoke to the bell hop who was taking my luggage He looked up with a friendly grin why of all thlngs' Gene Swauger After I entered the hotel lobby I was admirlng a beautiful painting of Niagara Falls In the corner it read, nArtist, Gene Swauger N Gra hopper told me that in his spare time he has gone on with his hobby I remember the pictures he drew of the teachers in school Gene called my attention to Kathryn Resh, the desk clerk, who is also secretary to the hotel manager As we chatted she told me she has not decided who will be the lucky guy, Don Ryland or Bob Coberly Kass agreed to have dinner with me that night in the beautiful ball room at the hotel Next day I continued my trip to Detroit by way of the Greyhound Bus All oads to Detroit were lined with signs UCome to the Showlng of the New 1956 Atomic Powered Chev let' Designed by Snyder Perhaps the designer is a relative of Henry After inquiring, to my amazements, I found the great designer to be Henry Snyder, my classmate from Grants ville 7 . , . - 1 . Their next game was scheduled with the Cincinnati Reds. I immdeiately planned to take the train to the game since Cin- cinnati and Pittsburgh were tied for first place in the Na- tional League.
