CLASS PROPHECY Well, here we are at the fair and before us is the tent of Mademolselle Rozeetta who is golng to let us gaze into her crystal ball to see the future of the members of the graduat 1ng class of Grantsville High School, Class of 1951 Ah h, as we gaze, the maglc beglns to work! We hear church mus1c and on a dlmly llghted altar we see a prlest For a moment we thlnk our eyes are betraylng us, but no, it 1S our old classmate, Johnny Mlchael Next, we f1nd ourselves in an art gallery gazing at a famous masterplece The distinqulshed artlst and her husband are watchln the on lookers Oh h of all things, it's Shirley Engle w1th arell Raileyl Why, what's th1s coming up? A country beauty shop with Vera Murphy's name on the door, and out in the field turkeys and chlckens galore belonging to whom? Hamill Glotfelty, her husband, of course Looking a little deeper 1nto the crystal ball and whom do we see but Jeanne Lohr closlng school for the day We won der 1f her gay mood was brought on by Johnny Keister's return Look what's coming next! There must be some power to prophecy as we see Vernon Miller as the Class of l9h9 predict be our own Janlce Jones By the moss laden trees we can tell we are nearlng North Carolina As we near a little wh1te cottage so fashionable in the South, we see none other than Helen Wilburn and her high school sweetheart Eugene Weimer Could it be they have recanf ly Wtied the knotqn As we wait at a traln crosslng for the train to pa s, we are wondering what the next scene will be We do not have t wonder long for the train is upon us and the engineer waves to His friendly smile betrays him, it's Everett Baker The traln is gone into the distance and the aromaci'ether reaches We see the Naval Hospital in Bethesda, Maryland This is a surprisel However, by the tw1nkle in her brown eyes we know the head nurse to be Virglnia Winebrenner, who is row giving orders to newcomers, and one of the newcomers 1 our old classmate Eleanor Weimer A few brlef moments pass and the scene changes to the Chicago World's Fair Whom do we see in the ring with the prize w1nning shorthorn beef but our old classmate, Bill Stan ton On the sideline stands his wife, Millie Bittinger, proudly beaming ed. Who is the gay, new bride with him? Why, it could only 0 Q 0 us. ' . . - s The cheery atmosphere of a party enjoying Arthur Godfreyls Talent Hunt on televlsion comes next to our view Who is the next contestant? None other than our class comedian, Eileen Layman Gazing agaln into the mag1c ball, we see a small town high school and the home economics department where a demon stration in cooking is being conducted We find the demon strator to be our old pal Rozie Broadwater Next, a city manslon where a tea is in progress e host and hostess are making their guests feel at ease This is a surprise! It!s Mary LeGeer and Harry Brenneman As the mansion fades we see a small cottage and coming up the walk is Dave Walls His w1fe opens the door for him, and by her tiny voice we know that lt 1S Margaret Krause Ah, the city of Washlngton comes next into view, where we see the President's secretary entering her office As she turns, her school girl complexion identifies her as Leora Mey ers Our magic ball now seems to be taklng us to Los Angeles, California, Just 1n t1me for the great Miss America beauty contest As the contestants come forward, we see Mary Green it seems that her brlght red halr and shapely figure have gust won her the t1tle of Miss America Someone is feeding a flock of chickens and a man 18 coming from the barn Since the man is Leo Miller we know the woman to be Owena Crowe Do secretaries really sit on the bosses' knee? Well, we vill soon find out for this is Dr Robert Diehl's offlce com ing up and at the desk we see two people instead of one sit ting Without guessing, we know that the second person is his secretary, Bernadette Glotfelty Next, we hear the strum ing of a guitar As we come nearer, we see that it is Mary Agnes McKenzie serenading Edwin Wampler with Wgood old mountain music Gone so suddenlyt A modern kitchen comes into view and does dlnner smell good! Look! The couple is Martha Durst and Charles Weber The scene shifts to a small town high school where we see a physical education class in action Directing the gymnas tics is our star basketball player, Sue Durst, now a physical education teacher in the new high school Appearing next is the c1ty of Hollywood where a famous movie star is being interviewed His wavy hair reminds us of X. ' . Th We leave the crowds behind and go to a farm at Jennings. .rv our old classmate Harry Bowers As we look again, we see it is Harry The person intervlewing him is our old frlend Norma Broadwater, now a famed newspaper reporter It seems we have been dO1Hg a lot of travellng and here we are back 1n Accldent, Maryland, the scene taklng place in the corner drugstore As the soda Jerk raises her head after complet1ng a banana split, we see her to be our old classmate, Dot Miller Coming next into view is a familiar baker, and in the kitchen making gayly decorated cakes is Donna Turner, the country's speclalist 1n cake baking It seems our scene is moving out to sea As a great shlp comes over the horlzon and the captaln shouts nAhoyN we can identlfy that deep voice as none other than Dale Yommer our old friend Sgt Homer Yommer of the U S Air Force on h1s latest round the world flight As yet we haven't seen the future of Orlo Folk and Cecll Kelly, but wait we see a faint glow in the ball As it clears we see it is Orlo's Ch1Cken farm where Cecil is gust leavlng the farm with a truck load of his best birds The picture fades away and we realize we were granted a mere gaze into the future As we leave we turn to thank Made moiselle for our happy Journey Committee Virginia Winebrenner Helen Wilburn 201151 CLASS MOTTO We're always ready!
