Diverse Curriculum The prime objective of secondary school is to prepare students for their adult years. In the short span of three years GPHS endeavors to ready its students for the future by requiring a minimum of subjects and offering a wide variety of courses to coincide with the student plans and interests. If college is intended after commencement, academic courses in the fields of math, science and languages are offered. A number of clerical and shop courses are available for the student who desires a career immediately after leaving school. For the benefit of future housewives and farmers, four-year sequences in homemaking and' agriculture are taught. On the less serious side, courses such as vocal and instrumental music, drama, speech, journalism and art yield high dividends in pleasure as well as educa- tion. In all, nearly fifty subjects are taught other than those required. Fine facilities enable the student to get the most out of each course.

ACTIVITIES LIGHTEN CLASSROOM BURDEN When summer days are nearly exhausted, Grants Pass High is readied for the appearance of its stu- dents, and once again nearly 1200 sophomores, juniors and seniors occupy its halls as autumn makes its annual debut. Due to the transition to a three- year high school, no multitude of confused freshmen blotted the scene this year. After the preliminary business of greeting old friends, changing schedules and joining clubs is completed, the normal routine of classes and homework assignments occupies the prominent position. All is not study however, for as the leaves begin to fall and the nights turn cool, football season is on hand, and rousing pep assemblies, rallies and games take over the social scene. Before anyone realizes it, the first nine weeks are over and the inevitable report cards reveal how well the three R's have left their mark. Not a moment too soon Christmas holidays come, and students and faculty alike retire for a much-needed rest and the pleasant prospect of approaching se- mester exams. A quick survey of the sports scene shows that basketball now has taken over. Similarly, Junior and Senior plays and proms capture extra- curricular honors. As winter rains give Way to spring sunshine and the usual attire of skirts and sweaters exchanged for cottons, likewise basketball yields to track and baseball. With the year reaching its end, hopeful candidates campaign vigorously for student body and class offices. The arrival of the TOKA causes the usual upset of everyday class routines. The flurry of class picnics, awards and baccalaureate add to the excitement. Climaxing the year, commencement leaves seniors with a feeling of nostalgia as under- classmen happily check in textbooks and janitors resignedly set about the task of cleaning up the year's accumulation. 64415 S
