We now know that these have been some of the best days of our lives. As we go forth into the world to make a place of our own, we realize that we will rely upon the teachings and help of our parents and teachers. We will never forg et the wonderful hours we have spent here at Grantham. Our purpose in this, the 1964 GRANNAWAYNE, is to picture some of the scenes that become an important part of the life at Grantham High. flue 1964 'PMI AU MBE 21.11217 3,6 miffi ll' m H5 T' '7i7iE!Wi w5 'WV EE ll! We first knew her as a teacher and as a friend. For the past two years we have been privileged to go to her with all our problems and needs, finding her ever willing to help us strive to develop the best that is within us.Her sincerity and perception inspire self-confidence and determination in those who seek her advice. We, the seniors, fe el very fortunate in having her with us, and are most happy to dedicate to her the 1964 GRANNAWAYNE. Thank you, Miss Gardner. www Aria? 4 M r, 4+ Vx X A 4000 r. Zeb Mr. Watson, who directed our band for several years, was a very kind and generous man.I-Ie was a friend to all who knew him. I-Ie wanted everyone to be happy and he created this a t m o s p h e r e at each practice session. In gear their willingneoo to oerve, we remember theoei aul feen are On S eptemb er 18, we met a friendly, energetic, happy little boy who came, of his own choosing, to try out for mascot. Leon, cheerful and alert, seemed to think of us as his friends. His infectious smile won the vote of our class. How deeply moved we were when we heard the news of his drow ning on October 24! Many of us, along with his family, will always cherish the memory of this gay little life who, we feel, was chosen by God. God moves in a Mysterious way, His wonders to perform, He plants his footsteps in the sea, And rides upon the storm. Light Shinning Out of Darkness By William Cowper cwatoen rememberance of Mr. Watson, we the Senior Class of 1963-64, would like to express our personal gratitude to a man who contributed much of his time to help Gran- tham begin a band. L. -3 3-4 gor your jntereot and cunclerotanding we recognize you, r. am fhomao He strived to improve our science department and enabled Grantham to futherits students' knowledge of the modern sciences. I-Ie was a good friend to all and was interested in each of us. He was fair to ev eryone and appreciated the efforts of his students. Even though he is teaching in another school now, each of us will always remember his kindness and willingness to help. In this, our yearbook, we, the seniors are happy to say, thank you, Mr. Thomas, for being a good all-round teacher. 7 Man shall not live by bread alo Let's win that game! fhere wao 1 5 'f I 5 ,I , -.,,,,, ,N 1 ,gin EW A man to man talk! 8 i I N cc time to be oeriouo O O O O f ez fri Explain it just one more time! History is made every day, but an event which causes facts ofthe past to become so alive cannot be fathomed by the imagination until they are a reality. Courage, strength, ambition, purpose, and love for his country were outstanding traits of this, our leader, who fell to the assassin's bullet on November 22, 1963. May we, as citizens who wish our nation to go forward, remember his words from the inaugural address. Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country. The deep red roses drenched in Blood lie on the floor. The youthful, handsome face Will smile no more. The hearts of our country unite and Shriek forth a sorrowful cry as The flag draped caisson tugged by four Gray horses to Arlington clatter by. To heaven to rest in our Lord's arm I feel his soul took flight. But we need him on earth to lead Peace, the direction he thought right. I know in my heart that I should Question our Heavenly Father not! But my grief-stricken heart Does not understand I-Iis plot. Many dreams are smashed, like helplessships, Dashed against a rocky shore. My neighbor, build your dreams on the foundation Of his incomplete hopes. Make sure the block fit, and that they stand strong and tall. Make sure your temple does not cause The hope, faith, and love of other men To crumble and fall. Only long after the traces of the red fluids of life are gone, And the petals of the red roses are scattered by the winds, Will people stop-look about them, and then walk on, Realizing what is lost. , 3-.East sf:ww.,,A.1,, .
