Among our most pleasant memories are tho s e of our senior year. Among the pages of this 1' SPORTS ENTERTAINMENT Life ward book we hav e tried to make some of the memories linger that otherwise might be for- gotten. THIS OUR LIFE is the story, in picture, of our life at Grantham High School dur- ing 1955-1956. We hope you will enjoy it in the years to come, as much as you do now. SPORTS WORK ? DEVOTIONAL I-fc Walked With lls Q 'lf Ov ' Vi , . ir.. Jimi? . Your lost friends are not dead but gone before, Advanced a stage or two upon that road Which you travel in the steps they trod, Aristophanes - - -FRAGMENT Luther Shelton Denning December 16, 1937-April 12, 1954 He lived happily, always seemed gay, and left a pleasant and comforting memory to each of us, We will remember him not for any given word, but for the total impact ofhis friendliness and willingness to do any- thin , g He was our friend. We worked and lived happily to- gether. We were together in love and deed, He loved us and the love that we have for him will linger in our hearts always. 4711 Jllflfrccizziiorz lv- vip of +- Very understanding, patient, friendly, and willing to help---these are valuable traits to be possessed by a person, It is because teachers possess these that our schools have reached the high standard they have today. Because of her constant interest in our future, most of our accomplishments will be due to her guidance, In these few words our feelings are partially expressed, but in our hearts she has won and will always hold a very dear spot. To express our warm and heartfelt gratitude, we, the Senior Cla s s , gratefully dedicate the 1956 GRANNAWAYNE to Miss E1izabeth'Lewis. cbyeefj aff! ffwer 15. The high-light of the year was our class party, We enjoyed a Weiner roast at Stevens' Mill, Several of us went to the movie afterwards, To greet us in the tenthgrade were Miss Jean McCaskill and Mrs. Lenore Cox. Very much to our disappointment, the girls' and boys' homerooms were separate, Ester Thornton joined us that year, but we lost some boys. They were: Estel Godwin, James Wise, and Charles Harrell, Our hearts were saddened by the loss of another class- mate, Shelton Denning, but memories of him still live with each of us. This year our class party was at Goldpark Lake, We enjoyed swimming before our picnic supper, Most of us en- joyed a movie afterwards, Our Junior year was filled with many activities which were welcomed to break the routine of classwork, To guide us that year was Miss Elizabeth Lewis, Our play, Oh Promise Me ,was abig success, Our class party was held again at Goldpark Lake, We enjoyed a Weiner roast and hamburger fry, Again the event wasn't complete for some of us without a movie. The wedding bells rang this year for several of our girls, They were: Helen Surles, Ester Thornton, and Joyce Giddens. , The high-light of the year was our Junior-Senior Ban- quet, We had lots of fun preparing for it and trying to keep it secret. It was a gay occasion with Hawaiian music and hula girls as waitresses, We were glad to have a part in graduation this year, We hadlots of fun fixing the arches for Class Night, and try- ing to sing, On September l, 1955, 35 dignified and happy seniors gathered in the senior room to reach our last and long await- ed goalin high school. For our homeroom teacher, we were very fortunate to have Mrs, Doris Jones. Our first meeting was to elect our class officers, They were: President, Jimmy Cox, Vice-President, Alice Rose Mozingog Secretary, Lavee Hollowellg Treasurer, Joseph Thaing Reporter, Betty Lou Martin, After a few weeks, work was begun on the annual, We were given two days to collect ads. Wedding bells rang this year for Betty Alice Warrick and Bobby Caulder, March was welcomed because it took some of us out of class to practice our senior play. Although all of us could not be in the play, we had a part to do. May, the long-awaited month with all its glamour and excitement, was here at last, It was the Juniors' time for the banquet. It was a gay occasion and one that we will al- ways remember, On May 23, 1956, 32 happy, but sad seniors walked down the aisle, We realized that this was our last time as a class together. Tomorrow we would go out into the world alone to seek happiness and success.
