PROSPECTORS REACH GRANT UNION HAS SUCCESSFUL SEASON The 1970 football season saw the Prospectors winning their second straight District 7-AA Cham- pionship. Grant Union went on to record a 33-8 up- set victory over Stay ton in the State Quarter-final game. The season finally ended when Grant Union lost to the number one team in the State, Junction City, 28-6. The Prospectors clinched the District title with big wins over Vale, Burns, Wahtonka, and Madras. The latter was the annual Homecoming game. By reaching the Semi-Finals in the State Play- offs, Grant Union had a very successful season. This is especially true when the team lost two of its first three games, and things did not look very bright. But by pulling together and displaying an usual spirit of team unity, Grant Union reversed things. In the last news poll before the play-offs, the team was rated seventh in the State and by winning the Quarter-final game, Grant Union was placed among the top four teams in the State of Oregon for AA schools. The Prospectors will certainly miss this year's senior football players. They were indeed a Championship group. Their three-year varsity record saw them on two District Championship teams and one second place team.
