1967 Prospector Grant Union High School John Day9 Oregon A PROSPECTOR'S VIEW OF 1966-67 We present yearly events of all kinds in this book For your pleasure, students, through it to look. With pictures and words we give you the many stories About our staff, students, and their various glories. Traditionally, the seniors precede all other classes, But we tried to picture somewhere all boys and lasses. To all the sports we have devoted many, many pages, Giving players and scores to do down through the ages. Clubs feature the scholar, athletes, both boy and girl. Homemakers, pep members, while majorettes give a whirl. Another group enjoys chess; skiing gives active sport; Grant's clubs should appeal to interests of all sort. Instruments and singers thrill with sweet, loud sound; Many students in band and pep band are to be found. Class plays, election, dances, both big and small. And commencement round out the year for students all. Dedication f The editors of the Annual Staff dedicate this annual jointly to Mrs. Sprouffske and to Mr. Beam. MRS. FRIEDA SPROUFFSKE We dedicate this annual to Mrs. Sprouf- fske for the service she has given this school for the last 15 years. Also we thank her for her time and guidance to annual staffs dur- ing the past eight years and wish her much success in the future. MR. Senior Class History (1967) In the fall of 1963 we entered Grant Union as green frosh, 76 in number. Dixie Ring was elected class president, and she led us through the horrors of initiation as provided by the upper classmen. We were given the privilege of enter- taining the Student Body with a talent show as part of our initiation. Julie Elligsen won first prize with her flea act; and Larry Southwick, Bill Gubser, and Russell Fankell won second prize. Kathy Berry, Connie Belshaw, Gilda Shoun, Ramona Hall, Carolyn Downing, and Evelyn Simmons won the Booby” prize. We changed from our rags of initiation to our bet- ter apparel for a welcoming dance sponsored by the sophomore class. Other class officers elected were John Wilson, vice president; Judy Davis, secretary; and Kathy Griffith, treasurer. Dixie Ring and Becky Baucum were elected jayvee cheerleaders. The freshman class voted Bonnie Lenz as our Homecoming princess. Kathy Griffith and Don Powell were elected frosh sweethearts. There were eleven freshman boys on the jayvee football team, and twelve on the frosh basketball team. The frosh basketball team did not show up very well in the win-loss scoring that year. However, several of their members were moved up to the jayvee squad before the end of the season. Twenty-one girls were initiated into Pep Club and GAA. There were also twelve freshman drill team members. Becky Baucum and Cathey Lyons were added to the majorette squad. Eleven of us were new band members. Class officers elected were Theresa Curtis, president; Marge Mosier, secretary; Leslie Lent, treasurer; Cathey Lyons, vice president; and Dennis Reynolds and Judy Davis, representatives. These officers, plus the rest of our enthusi- astic class, worked hard to make this year a tremendous success. We occupied three out of four positions on the Student Council. Bill Gubser, Gale Wall, and Dennis Reynolds joined the Lettermen's Club. Dennis Reynolds went to A-2 district and State in track. To raise money to give the Junior-Senior Banquet and Prom, we put on a play, Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur’s Court. Setting and cos mes were elaborate, and were made by junior class members. We made a large sum of money toward our Prom. After raising well over $1,000 and setting up several committees for preparation, the hard work began. We decor- ated for hours! Because of the excellent class co-operation, the Prom was said to have been one of the most beautiful in the annals of Grant Union history. Our theme was Moonlight and Roses. We decorated with pink and silver. Many thanks were given to Mrs. Ward for painting our murals and constructing the beautiful shadow boxes with their large pink roses. We began our important senior year with 58 class members. Seniors took a very active part in student affairs during 1966-67. Student Body officers were John Wilson, president; Christy Lindley, secretary. Elks leadership winners were Dixie Ring and Dennis Reynolds. Beth McKrola became the Betty Crocker Homemaker of Tomorrow for Grant. Homecoming Queen was Judy Davis; her senior princess was Julie Elligsen. Jim Wilson and Keith Bunnell were co-editors of the Prospector annual, assisted by seniors Marge Mosier and Mary Campbell. Jim also took many of the group and activity pictures for the annual. Five seniors were members of the varsity basketball squad. Leslie Lent will reign over the Prom as Queen. Her princesses will be Becky Baucum, Kay Conklin, Judy. Davis, and Dixie Ring. Our class play, spring sports, music concerts and contest, and, finally.
