Grant Goes to District! By winning second place in league play, Grant Union earned a berth in the District Tournament, held in LaGrande, March 12-13, 1965. In their first game they downed Nyssa 52-51 in a tight, seesaw game. In the championship game on Saturday night, Grant lost to Heppner by a score of 45-53, to take second place in the district. In our regular league, Mike Conklin and Brad Ward were named to the First Team. Pictures on the next page are action shots taken at the District Tournament by the regular staff photographer for The Blue Mountain Eagle. OFF TO THE DISTRICT TOURNAMENT! 1964-65 VARSITY BASKETBALL SQUAD: Stan LeGore, Jim Bare, Jerry Beverage, Don Klabo, Mike Conklin, Marion Bliss (Mgr.) Bill Gubser, Brad Ward, Steve Water- man, Mike Sprouffske and Bill Bond. BACK ROW: Coach Jim Jenkins, John Wilson, (Statistician), Bill Jackson and Don Swenson, (Assistant coaches.) Cheerleaders, Pep Band, Drill Team, and ma- jorettes were official representatives of GUMS at the tournament. The home communities seemed deserted, be- cause so many students and townspeople attended the games.
