Cl ass History 1957-1961 May 24, 1961 Dear Diary, At last we have reached our goal of the past four years, Graduation Day! Before we walk out to meet the world, I am writing down a few of the things we did together and enjoyed so much at Grant Union. It seems as if it were only yesterday that 64 of us entered these halls as lowly fresh- men. After getting acquainted with the classrooms and teachers, we elected our class officers. They were president, Wayne Warren; vice-president, Jim Grider; secretary, Sharon Thomasson; and representatives, Sandy Shields and Tim Farrell. Then came Initiation, which was a mixture of fun and work. We were given a Welcoming Party by the class of ’60, to show that there were no hard feelings. We later gave them a return party. Our money-making project for that year was the Jelly Bean contest. It seems like ages before we discarded our title of green freshmen and became sophomores. Hal Williams was our president, with Tim Farrell as vice-president, Carol Holliday as secretary-treasurer, and Carol Tuttle as representative. That year we gave the Welcome Party for the new freshmen. Paul Steele was president our junior year, and we accomplished quite a bit. Rex Moles was vice-president, Sandy Shields as secretary, Eddie Newton as treasurer, and Hal Williams and Carol Carpenter as representatives. We had several money-making projects that year. We sold refreshments at the games, novelties, and magazine sub- scriptions. In December we gave a Christmas Dance, which was a great success. Santa himself dropped in to wish us the season’s greetings. That spring we gave our Junior class play, “Beef Stew”. We spent many hours preparing the Junior-Senior Prom and Banquet, with the theme of “Paradise of the Deep”. During the summer, following this junior year, Carole Davis and Sharon Thomasson attended Girls’ State. Hal Williams, Rex Moles, Clif Drew, Eddie Newton, and Paul Steele represented us at Boys’ State. Also, Paul Steele made the United Nations Tour from this district, a great honor for him and for our school. And then, at last, we were high and mighty seniors. Through all the years, we have looked forward to this one the most--to the initiation of the freshmen and finally to our Graduation. Rex Moles led us, with Bertie Hutchinson, MikeShowmaker, and Bill Haworth as his vice-president, secretary, and treasurer. As Student Body officers Hal Williams served as president, Sandy Shields as vice-president, and Sharon Thomasson as secretary. Carole Davis headed the GRAA; Eddie Newton was elected president of the Varsity Club with Rex Moles and Tim Farrel to serve as his vice-president and secretary-treasur- er. Fred Elligsen was elected as head of the newly-organized Debate Club with Paul Steele as his treasurer. Our class play this year was “Mrs. Plaster of Paris”, starring Sharon Thomasson. We also had our traditional Sadie Hawkins Dance. The juniors gave us a lovely banquet and prom with the theme of “Some Enchanted Evening”. Queen Linda Robinson looked so lovely with her court of Carole Davis, Sandy Shields, Rosalie Looney, and Karen Perkins. Baccalaureate Services were held on May 21. Today, one of the greatest in our lives, has finally arrived. We have received our diplomas and are about to start our new lives. Our four years in this school has been a great experience and now that we have finished, may we always remember them.
