Grsduatin Faculty MARY N. SCHROEDER The students of Grant, especially the girls, regret that Mrs. Schroeder won't be back at Grant to offer her advice and guidance. She came to Grant in the fall of 1925 just one halfyear after the school opened. Up until she succeeded Bess McGaw as Vice Principal in 1948, Mrs. Schroeder taught Latin. She became the second Vice Principal at Grant. As Vice Principal her duties included the counseling and guidance program, disciplining of girls and school activities. Mr. Kleiner has commented very appropiately about her- she acts like a lady and works like a man. This is the way we will always remember her. FLORENCE HOLLOWAY Miss Holloway has been teaching Business Education at Grant since 1927. She is one ofthe few teachers at Grant that has had the opport- tunity to teach under Grant's four principals: Mr. Fletcher, Mr. Bittner, Mr. Meek, and Mr. Kleiner. Miss Holloway was educated at Colorado College in Colorado Springs, then taught two years at Milwaukie before coming to Grant. While at Grant, she was an advisor to the Girls' League for four years.

Fall cmtivaz Council President l:l'ZCl Taylor It is really not so strange that we are as we are. Who has ever looked at the world through any but his own eyes? And can science really do much more than change our noses? A life can be well spent contemplating what transforms us from instantaneous complex equations into individualsg and what imbues life with happiness, sadness, and meaning, Our philosophers tell us that in a cosmic sense nothing human matters. And our scientists trace us back to an autocatalytic reaction of a simple equation. But as we are undaunted by these proud hy- pocrites, I a.m undaunted by my lack of consequence. Who cares for more than a passing interval, what I write here? No electorate awaits my judg- ment to alter our society, nor does any man look anxiously to me for advice. Only a courteous friend scans this print to comment for my pleasure.
