Grant High School. This sam quarter century has seen the educational standards imprcve, the physical plant expand, and most important, has seen more than l2,000 young people go into the world with a better appreciation of the finer things of life, a capacity for clearer thinking, and a good preparation for the rigors of adult experience. The building has changed considerably since its opening in l92h. Since it was dedicated, the north and south wings, the gymnasium, the auditorium, and the cafeteria have been added. Since that September day in l92h, when the flag was first raised at Grant High School, three excellent men have occupied the position of Principal. The late William Fletcher, A. F. Bittner, now retired, and Colton Meek, have adminis- tered the affairs of the institution very commendably. In Deans, Mary Henderson Christopher, Elizabeth Caldwell McGaw, and Mary N. Parounagian, the girls of Grant have had three understanding, sympathetic coun- selors. For more than 22 years as Vice-Principal, C. E. Scott has very capably, handled the affairs of dean of boys. These administrators have all been rec- ognized as being outstanding leaders. 'Cate 5 Cate, 'Che forum Class of i949 Pacultg 3 la Mode A feeling of fellowship among faculty members has been built up through such traditions as the annual Christmas dinner and spring luncheon. In the field of scholastic achievement, Grant has always been a leader. It has often been a hard task to choose the recipients of the Fletcher scholarship and the Elizabeth McGaw Cformerly the Girls' League? scholarship, because so many students were deserving of the honor. Because teamwork and spirit are synonymous with Grant, sports championships have often come to it. The Spring Show, Christmas program, and instrumental con- certs have distinguished the music and drama departments. The dances and other social events and the club program have aided student fellowship. Now holding forth with over 100 full-time employees, and an annual payrdJ.of more than one-third of a million dollars, Grant high, can look back on a success- ful quarter century, and forward to many more years of progress, many more fine achievements, and even more important, to making its future graduating classes as proud of it as all previous classes have been.
