Of those who began that exciting role as first graders, Betty Elliott, Berna Deane Bonsall, and Maurice Eddie are the only originals to finish high school here. Through the second and third grades, there were no additions or subtractions, but at the close of the third grade, Maurice Eddie decided to try his luck in Washington. At the same time, Wanda Carter, who had just finished the third grade in California, decided to try her luck in Ulysses, so she stepped in to fill Maurice's shoes. Lela Hampton also joined the class this year. The first semester of the fifth year finds Maurice Eddie returning. Evidently everything didn't go so well in Washington. Others to enroll that year were Leah Jean Cheek, Josandra Heymna, Walter Mc- Clure, and last, but not least, Mary Webber. This jolly little party fit right in. The sixth grade brought several nice surprises: Burnus Goodwin from Tennessee, a girl from Staf- ford, Phillis Lessig, and Joan Silva. Thus they passed on to the seventh where they were lucky enough to add Bill Lozar and Leon Hamp- ton to this happy and growing group. All passed from the seventh on to the eighth, where Dale Gish and Larry Elliott joined the class. On the 18th of May, thirty -three starry -eyed youngsters were graduated from their childhood days of grade school. ln September of 1949, a group of confident adolescents enrolled as freshmen in high school. New class members were: Gladys Ann Hennigh, Wayne Christian, Nancy Kennedy, Faye Callahan, Armabel Ladner, John Ladner, Bill and Bob Herman, Kenneth Howard, Bert Casey, and Glenda Priest. Even though the first year of high school was a bit difficult and some confidence was lost, every- one survived the first year to say goodbye to Phillis Lessig and Joan Silva. ln spite of the loss, all managed to make it to the end of the year, when Lela Hampton left to become a housewife. The loss of a classmate, Faye Callahan, everyone's friend, brought much sorrow. The first semester of the junior year, the only new addition was Jerry Pinkerton. Ioan Silva returned to be with all her old friends. The second semester brought Larry Schuster, Deryl Schuster, Shirley Davidson, and Kay Schneider. The close of this year brought the loss of two more girls: Leah Jean Cheek took up the role of housewife, and Joan Silva blew off again. And here is ---------- T HE YEAR! Seniors, at last! The only member added was Larry Bates. LaNeve left to finish school in Wichita, and Joan Silva blew back againl That brings us up to date. Baccalaureate and graduation over and the '41-53'ers are on their own. Here's wishing the best of luck to a pretty wonderful group of ex -students of GCRHS, from the underclassmen of your Alma Mater. this page through the courtesy of PITTS 8r. The purpose of the sixty -seven girls in the Ulysses 1952-53 Pep Club was to get out and cheer for their team at games. Their uniforms were black skirts, white blouses, black school sweaters, white socks, and saddle oxfords. At each home game, a section was roped off for Pep Club members, and in that section they rooted for the members of their team. The Pep C1ub's activities this year included the Homecoming parade and queen crowning, October 24, several open air pep rallies during football season, and others in the gym. The presentation of the above awards was made at Class Night ceremonies, May 19, 1953, following the program prepared and presented by the seniors. The Class Prophecy was first on the seniors' agenda. It took the audience 20 years into the future to the front porch of the Goodwin home ln Tennessee. The Goodwins, Burnus and Betty flilllottj, received a letter from a fonncr teacher of their hlgh school days, Mrs. Gillett, when Deryl U. S. Mail Man' Schtuter brought them their weekly mail. The letter, which they read with much ado, brought them up to date on the where -about: and occupations of their former classmates. These ranged all the way from chasing butter- flys in Texas to chasing men in Rome. Soine of the '53 seniors even became well knowng like the twins who sailed their saucer to Mars, and the fellow who got to empty wastebaskets in our nation's capitol. The 1953 audience got a look at the grads in 1973 as each one acted out a part of his particular future. Wanda Carter then gave all a glimpse into the past when she read the History of the Class. Then Iosandra l-leyman read the last will And Testament f th o e '53 Senior Class, which concluded the seniors' Class Night activities. We...the seniors of 1953 leave our bl in ess gs upon this school and all of it's teachers, and our pledge of friendship, always. this page through the courtesy of SLOAN'S K T SERVICE -M1-'ff'-r 'r ' f -- -- Baccalauaeaie . - QLZ' 1 -.,.-G' BACCALAUREATE Sunday, May 17, 8:00 p. m.
