Although this is a year for all of us to remember, for Mr. Morell, it is just one out of many that have given him happiness and fulfill- ment. I want to go out when things are good. I feel like I've ac- complished alot, I fell like the school is a good place now, and it's a good time to move aside. Certainly the Mighty Eagles have grown in every respect as Super Eagle has guided us and shown dedication to the home of the Mighty Eagles. Mr. Morell is currently the dean of Grossmont district principals and the only principal Granite Hills has ever had. He was assigned the job when the school opened in 1960. A native of northern Minnesota and graduated from both Hamline University and the University of Southern California, Mr. Morell is a well educated man. Even so, he says, You can never - .. .. hili 8 40 One Final Farewell stop being a student and learning. One of the best memories I have is the dedication of the fiberglass Ernie in 1964, the first class to graduate from Granite Hills. I feel privileged to have been presented the most rewarding ex- perience of being Principal of Granite Hills High School for twenty-three years. I will still leave a part of my heart there at Granite Hills High School, but my retirement shouldn't keep me from following what is going on at Granite Hills. l'm sure that on Friday nights next year I will probably find myself watching Granite Hills and somebody playing football. You can't help but miss something you've put thirty-four years of your life into. And so it is that in years to come, our principal will remember 1983 with a smile rather than a tear.

The experiences are very much appreciated. Thank you all. R. Vega us - because we have met. In the past thirty-one years of teaching and counseling I have met and learned to respect bet- ween 12,000-13,000 students, their parents, and a multitude of professional colleagues and ad- ministrators. All of these have contributed to my personal and professional growth. I say 'Thanks and God bless you aIl.' A. Van Zanten
