Granite Hills' Post EL GRANITO HIGH SCHOOL 1719 MAD!SON AVENUE EL CAJON, CALIFORNIA March 25, 1960 Dear Parents: You have probably driven past Madison and Fourth recently and wondered if our new school will be ready next fall . I have wondered too. But others in similar situations have wondered about this before and somehow new schools have managed to open on schedule. We hope this will be the case with EI Granito, at least we are still planning to open September 12, 1960. In anticipation of our first school year it fs important that we begin to organize the EI Granito PTA. This letter is being sent to parents of Freshmen, Sophofnores and Juniors at El Caion Valley High School who reside in the attendance area ot' El Granito High and to parents of present Sth graders who will be entering EI Granito next fall . I hope you will be able to attend the two meetings listed below. The first organizational meeting of the El Granito PTA will be held on Wednesday, March 30, 1960, at 7:30 P.M. in the Cafeteria at El Caion Valley High. This first meeting should be of short duration and will consist of selecting a nominating committee and a -by-laws committee. A few members of our faculty will be present to meet you . A colored sketch of EI Granito will be available to graphically teII you about our new school. Mrs. Halgren, extension director of 9th District PTA will preside. The second meeting will be held on Wednesday, April 20, 1960, at 7:30 P.M. in the Cafeteria at El Caion Valley High. At this meeting the officers for our first school year will be elected, the by-laws will be presented for adoption, and the opportunity to become o Charter member will be available to each parent present. El Granite was chosen because the names of two nearby schools - El Capitan and El Cajon - revealed Spanish inflection. But the name was changed to Granite Hills because . El Granite has a double meaning in Spanish. lt means the granite but the objection was with the other meaning - the zit. It is now officially renamed Granite Hills High School and the ribbing they have been taking before the school was even built will cease. An organizational meeting of the proposed Granite Hills PTA will be held att 7:30 p.m. April 20 at El Cajon Valley High School. There will be an elec- tion of officers, and voting on the by-laws.
