A picture is worth a thousand words. These moments become a time for reflecting on the acclaims and errors of the years of friendships won and lessons learned. Certainly we have had our glorious hours and our discouraging moments. Yet out of it all has come a moving forward in understanding, in traditions, and in challenges. Not a small part of our learning together has come from you our Seniors. Underclassmen reap the heritage of your experience. Thus, we can only express words of appreciation to you Seniors as a class and as individuals for being the leaders in what we trust will be a noble endeavor for all our young people to follow. To each of you I hope that the memories you carry with you are pleasant ones and that the experiences of your years at Granite were positive steps in your growth and maturity toward the goals that each of you have established. Sincerly yours, Principal Column 1 Aline Pearce: German, English Wil Strecker: English, Sciences Marilyn Wiltz: English Ron Camp: History Column 2 Kathy Steele: Home Economics John Flaherty: Physical Education Marion Docter: English Column 3 Richard Bates: Art, English a Judy Roche: P.E. We tried to get the whole town into it, transporting Senior Citizens, putting up posters, and announcing it on the radio. We're the first class to complete the four grades in our new high school. I think these four years will always be remembered. I hope the class of 1978 is missed yyh njyve are finally gone. I had a lot of problems and I would never have made it if it weren't for Mr. Bates and my helpers. I think I had a great group. And a special thanks to the teachers for putting up with us when we were out selling ads and any other time. We hope that within these pages you will find the photographs and words to help you recapture the spirit of the year. This book is your only permanent record of a memorable year. Don't forget to use it again to remember a face, to recall a place; to relive a game, to remember a name. Enjoy the memories. Their value will increase with the passing years. Thanks again to everyone making it possible. Photographer: Steve Frick Keep up the good Busy at work. work Lynn Sue. The Granite Falls Tigers, coming off a league championship in 1976 when their season record was 8-1, were not supposed to be much competition in 1977. With the loss of 21 seniors, the season looked bleak. However, with a large turnout of 50 players and added enthusiasm to the football program because of a J.V. schedule, the Tigers rolled to a 5-0 start. Langley then rolled into Granite and out fought the Tigers 28- 6. Granite remained in contention journeying to Concrete winning 49-12. The next big game was at Sultan with the two teams tied for first place but Sultan prevailed 24-0. Granite closed out the season by beating Darrington 27-6, ending the season in a blaze of glory. The final record was 7-2 and a second place finish. Many of the younger players gained a lot of experience and the Tigers should be tough in 1978. GRIDIRON GREATS! They came home with 1 outstanding, 4 excellents, and 2 superior ribbons. During the summer they held bake sales, car washes, and a 2-day rummaage sale to raise money for their uniforms. The pep assemblies, always seemed to keep the crowd going with such things as Gumby's chickens, Mr. Davis's pie in the face, Mr. West pep talks, and Foz's band. At the time of this writing the outcome of the season is still in balance. A return trip to the District playoffs and another winning season depend on the dedication of the players themselves. The Tigers played defense this year, thanks to the hard work of Coach Mark Spurgeon. Mike and John displayed outstanding leadership all year long, always performing each task with diligence. To sum up the past and the future of Granite Falls basketball, the big word is Attitude.
