SMILEY. . . TOUGH. . . 7 HARDWORKING. . . AND PATIENT. The Senior class officers this year were (left to right) President Dean Running, Secretary Treasurer Diana McWilliams, and Vice President Keith Cool. Many good times were had by the Senior class. Not only this year, but in all their years at GFHS. From our own initiation four years ago, up to our graduation, this class has had good times. This year though, since it is our last year, has been extra special to the Seniors. We started off the year with the initiation of this year’s Freshmen, and continued on with Homecoming; where Cindy Bond reign- ed as Queen, and Diana McWilliams and Lynn Code were the Senior Princesses. We were represented in sports by Keith Cool, Dean Running, Mike Lange, Steve Westland, Duane Pray, and Tim Martinec. We also had Cindy Bond, Margaret Bromley, Carolyn Blizard, and Gayle Wagner re- presenting us in the girl’s sports. Cindy Bond was also a cheerleader. This year the Senior class took a trip to E. C. C. during the fall. They had their Student Government Day, Senior Sneak, and Class Party during the Spring along with the Junior Senior Ball, Baccalaureate, and Graduation. Class officers this year were President Dean Running, Vice President Keith Cool, and Secretary Treasurer Diana McWilliams. Our Student Council representatives were Ray Stewart and Cindy Bond. Truely, this year held many good times, and will always be remembered by the class Senior Sign Juniors The Junior Class good times were led by their officers Don Bemathy, President; Ron Bemathy, Vice President; and Bonnie Stine, Secretary. The class of “73” sponsored many worthwhile activities such as dances, Junior-Senior Ball, Grad- uation, and Baccalaureate decoration. Joni Running, and Vice President Rick Brooks. 16 Sophomores The good times were really what the sophomore class had this year. Throughout the year they boosted school spirit in many money making activities. They made things really happen by sponsoring bake sales and dances. During basketball season the soph- omores sold concessions, at many games. The second half of the year found the soph- omores good timing into selling flag patches and hosting a chili feed. The sophomores ere led by Ernie Meeks Pres; Rick Brooks v ice Pres; and Joni Running Sec. The A. S. B. representatives were Randie Mills and Debbie Dodge. Joni Running was cheerleader and also the sophomore homecoming princess. Coached by Ron Camp and led by team captains Dean Running, Keith Cool, Mike Lange, and Don Bemathy, this year’s football team kept their spirits up during the entire football season, and managed to keep fighting for a victory. Although we didn’t come out as champions we think that our team should be commended on their effort and determination. Jim Roche received the award for most improved player, Dean Running for most inspirational player, and Keith Cool for best blocker. 21 Freshmen who turned out with the Varsity are: Jerry Hjeile and Mike Vier. Tigermen at a pep assembly Homecoming 1911 The theme of this year's Homecoming which was held on October 22, 1971, was “A Touch of Happiness.” Queen Cindy Bond (with her escort Don Bemathy) reigned over the dance that was decorated in red, white, and pink streamers with flowers and hearts. In Queen Cindy's court were: First Senior Princess Diana McWilliams (escort Dean Running) Second Senior Princess Lynn Code (escort Larry Watkins), Junior Princess Bonnie Stine (escort Shane Carroll), and Sophomore Princess Joni Running (escort Ross Henson). Everyone had a very nice time dancing to the music of Maya, which was the band that played. Coach Arvid Waali was assisted by Judy Roche to help our team reach the standing of champions. This year's tennis captain was Sue Roche. The awards given out this year were to Sharon Carpenter for most improved player, Joni Running for most valuable player, and Cindy Bond for most inspirational player. 1971-72 Basketball Jump Up Mighty Joe, Junlp Up!!! This year's varsity basketball team was coached by Jack Doe ring and led by team captain Joe Aylesworth. Although our team didn't always come out on top as far as scoring, we think that they deserve recognition for keeping up their spirit. This year’s Junior Varsity had many good times during the season. Coached by Arvid Waali and led by team captain David Rains, the Junior Varsity went through the year making a very good show for themselves. This year’s Volleyball team coached by Judy Roche, came out in second place in their league; the Varsity losing only one game to Langley and the Junior Varsity never lost any. Captain, Carolyn Blizard helped to lead her team on to the victories that they deserved. Colleen Wolfe was chosen by the team as the player with the best attitude, and Joni Running as most valuable player. Team Captain: Cindy Bond Good times will always be remembered by the girl’s basketball team we had this year, and by the spectators who watched them play their many games. These girls worked hard to get where they are and we are proud to have them as our team. Coach was Judy Roche and team captain was Cindy Bond. Cheerleaders and Pep Assemblies This year’s cheerleaders were Senior: Cindy Bone; Juniors: Sue Roche, Kathy Simpson, Sharon Carpenter; and Sophomore: Joni Running. They led our school in supporting our team, and helped to keep the spirit in all of us. Our teams were backed by the many students who came to the pep assemblies to support them. Throughout tne entire year, the pep assemblies continued to have faith in our teams and keep up the school spirit. Although we weren’t always victorious, the students and cheerleaders were always there backing us up. Annual Staff We were an inexperienced staff this year, but had a super good time learning as we worked. Some of the members attended a workshop at Cleveland High in the Fall. All who went really enjoyed it. Merchants and businessmen from Everett, Marysville, Arlington, Snohomish, and Frontier Village, as well as the Granite Falls area, supported our yearbook with advertise- ments. Since they had such a small group, Advisor Ottie Hale, did not have them choose an editor. Instead, everyone pitched in and just worked together, and they all did what had to be done. 42 Money making bake sale at noon by the Girls Club!! I r I C I u b The president of this year’s Girl’s Club was Gayle Wagner; Vice President Jan O’Neill; and Secretary Bonnie Stine. Cabinet members were Senior Carol Blizard; Junior Sue Manlove; Sophomore Linda Madsen; and Freshman Cindy Benoit. The Girl’s Club sponsored Homecoming, Tolo, and the Talent Show. They had fund raising activities like selling jar openers, to help bring them money. They would like to thank Mrs. Hale for giving her time as their advisor. Don't You Dare!!!!!!!! Big “G” C The Big G Club had many good times that will always be remembered. They helped the Girl's Club with Homecoming and sponsored the donkey basketball game. The New members to the Big G Club were: Ross Henson, Jim Roche, Chuck Westvang, Jeff Hill, and Rick Brooks. This year’s drill team helped to make our home games good times with their marching and dancing. B. at the school board meetings. This year the student council invested in a Juke Box. It was used at many dances and played during lunch hour. Hopefully it will add to the good times at Granite Falls High School in the future years, as it has this year. 49 Ski Club The good times had by this years Ski Club were many. Besides the trips up to Mt. Pilchuck every weekend, on a bus sponsored by the P. T. A. , members of Ski Club went up to White Pass for a two night stay. To earn money the Ski Club held dances. The good times that this year’s high school band had could be seen at the many basketball and football games they played at. Led by director Arvid Waali, and band President Tim Martinec, our band played at pep assemblies, parades and concerts. Led by director Arvid Waali, chorus also had many good times singing at the Christmas Concert and Spring Concert. 53 JR. High 54 In October 1971, the Freshmen class was officially initiated into the Granite Falls Sr. High School by the Senior class of 1972. Initiation took place the last 45 minutes of school on the football field where the Freshmen were able to eat and drink a wide variety of good things. And, to the delight of the watching students, the Freshmen performed many tricks and stunts. This was definitely a day that neither the Freshmen or the Seniors will ever forget!!!!!!!!!!! 55 Freshmen Many good times were had by this year’s Freshmen class, some of which included Initiation, dances, and selling concessions at home games. The President was Barb Code; Vice President was Cindy Hansen; and Secretary was Cindy Benoit. A. S. B. representatives were Georgene Debo and Shelley Phillips.
