She was given a blue and gold football auto- graphed by the team and a bouquet of blue and gold chrysanthemums. As she joined the band in the last song of the season, she was filled with emotion. M I S S B L U E Junior Play The Junior class play, ' ' Lock, Stock, and Lipstick was a delightful comedy about a woman-liating high school guid- ance counselor who is forced to share his office with a woman counselor. The production involved many hours of practice and much hard work on the part of the cast and crew. At the same time, it provided much enjoyment and many humorous moments for the Juniors who participated. Their efforts were re- warded by a successful performance. HONORS Foreign Exchange Student Staffan Weiber This year Granite Falls High School experienced for the first time having a foreign exchange student from the American Field program. Our student is Staffan Weiber, a seven- teen-year-old from Malmo, Sweden. Staffan has provided a new dimension to the student body and has given the school and community a better under- standing of not only Sweden and Europe, but of our own country as well. He is living in the home of Dr. and Mrs. W. N. Corpening and is very active in the life of the family, just as he is an active participant in school affairs. 77 Student Council OFFICERS: Robert Huff, Trina Starnes, Debbie Starnes, Rick Shore, Paul Corpening. However, some of the games were undecided until late in the second half, including a heartbreaking 7-6 defeat at Homecoming. Under the capable guidance of head coaches, Don Kirkpatrick, and Wayne Kirby, with the assistance of Bernard Noble, Jim Bolick, and Spaulding Bisbee, the Demon gridders showed their supporters an exciting, forceful type of football. This year ' s Blue Demons played hard and repre- sented Granite Falls High with good sportsmanship on and off the field. Boys Basketball What went wrong??? Since only three players will be lost through graduation, next year looks very promising. CO-CAPTAINS: Debbie Starnes, Karen Spencer COACH: Wayne Kirby 110 I 1969 Baseball COACH: M. S. Deal. Coach Kirkpatrick led the predominantly experienced lettermen to their exceptional season. Also, to spark more enthusiasm for the team and Gran- ite track team followers, a track meet was held at Granite for the first time. 1969 Track Coach Don Kirkpatrick 116 The Golf Team had a spectacular season in 1969 with 19 first-place finishes and three losses.
