Here at Granite Falls High School we have played many parts freshman, sophomore, junior, sen- ior, scholar, athlete, clown, friend, mate. Some of our performances here have been commendable while others not so praise-worthy but all our roles have provided us richly and rewardingly with knowledge to have and use; memories to bless and burn; friends to love and trust. The curtain will presently fall to end the play that began, for some of us, in 1959. No one will deny this was a hit; but now let us preview the current cast and play itself presenting Srani ' e Jaffs Jliqn ma us manu par. ■ s . . . Our sins finally caught up with us: Exams! Soo£ or memor Spring came and so did the fever: To some, Love (was) a many splendored thing; to others, The tender trap; while some got that Band of Gold. It is true one cannot study the sun with saucy looks .... But if one is to know the truth, then study must be a diligent deep-searching. We found this spirit here at Granite High on the grid- iron, on the basketball court, and on the baseball field. It radiates from all games. When we lost this spirit we lost the sport, but when we found it we won not a prize, for we were playing for the love of sports. Miss Peggy Brooks A well-known face around Granite Falls High is that of Miss Brooks. She is a grad- uate of Lenoir Rhyne College. Since Miss Brooks has been teaching in Granite Falls High, she has had a genuine interest in the students. She is sponsor of the Freshman class, J.V. Their over-all record was four wins and six losses. The first game of the season was with FredT. Foard, a conference team. The Demons were able to pull out a victory by some good offensive play. Everyone was looking for a winning season, but then came the hard blow. The Demons were knocked off by Bandys by the score of 6-7. The next game was with Hildebran, and the Demons were hoping to redeem themselves, but they failed again, losing 8-13. After the loss to Hildebran, the Demons worked hard for their game against highly rated Maiden. It was in this game that the Demons made their best showing of the year, but they lost by the score of 6-12. With the load of three losses and one win, the Demons went into their next game against St. Stephens with their heads hanging low. The Indians were very fired up and trounced the Demons 26-0. Although the Demons were entering the game against Rock Springs with a 1-4 record, they were favored to win and did just that by a score of 41-6. This was the first time the Demons were able to really play ball. Their surge of power was short, however, for their next op- ponent, Gamewell, upset them by a score of 6-7. This put the Demons back deep in the hole. As the Demons got ready for the favored Charlotte Catholic team, they were disheartened. Everyone was surprised when the Demons turned in a good performance. This increased their slim win column to 3 games against 5 defeats. The next team the Demons were to meet was the Hudson Hornets. The granite team was fired up for this game and almost took a win over the 3A team, losing 20-26. As the last game of the season came, the Demons were determined not to go down in defeat. The demons ' opponent was Bunker Hill. The Demons were the underdog, but they managed to take an easy 19-0 victory. The season was finished with a record of 4 wins and 6 losses.
