Gilbert V. Walmsley, Principal Mr. Walmsley was born on January 15, 1939, in East Alton, Illinois. He attended East Alton elementary schools, and graduated from East Alton-Wood River Community High School. He graduated from Southern Illinois Univer- sity at Carbondale, in 1962, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Arts and Safety Education. He attended night school at S.I.U., Edwardsville, from 1962- 65, in order to acquire a Master of Science degree in School Administration and Guidance. In 1962, he began teaching Industrial Arts at Roosevelt High School as an in St. Louis. The following year, he came to Granite City Senior High School as an Industrial Arts and Driver’s Education teacher. From 1965-67, he was Guidance Counselor at the Senior High. In 1967 he bacame Assistant Principal at the Senior High School. In 1970, he became Principal of Prather Junior High, serving as principal there until he was named Principal-Elect of Granite City High School North, in 1972. During the year 1972-73, he supervised the design, building, and staffing of the new school, and in 1973-74 he became the first principal of North High School. 27
