MR. GILBERT V. WALMSLEY SUPERiriTENDEMT OF SCHOOLS Our Superintendent of Schools is Mr. Gilbert V. Walmsiey. who has been with the Granite City school system since 1963, when he came here as an instructor in industrial arts and driver education. Mr. Walmsiey was appointed superintendent by the Board of education starting in the fall of 1986. Mr. Walmsiey began his teaching career in St. Louis before coming to Granite City. Besides being an instructor in industrial arts and driver education, he is a former guidance counselor and assistant principal at the high school. In 1970 he became principal of Prather Junior High School. In 1972 he was named principal of North High School, serving in that position for ten years. In 1983, when the high schools were combined, he became principal of the Senior High School, until being named superintendent. Mr. Walmsiey graduated from East Alton — Wood River High School. He holds a Bachelor ' s degree in Industrial Arts and Safety Education from S.I.U., Carbondale, a Master s degree in School Administration and Guidance, and an Educational Specialist degree In School Administra- tion from S.I.U. — Edwardsville. 19

MR. KENNETH SPALDING PRINCIPAL Mr. Spalding was bom in Madison, Illi- nois, and educated in the Madison School System, graduating from high school in 1957. He received his Bac- calaureate Degree from S.I.U., Ed- wardsville, in Secondary Education and School Administration. He began his teaching career in 1963, at Granite City Senior High School as an instmctor in the Social Studies department. In 1968, he became assistant principal of Grigsby Junior High School for two years. In 1970, he returned to the Senior High School and served as assistant principal for 14 years. He then served one year as assistant principal at Coolidge Junior High and one year as principal at Grigsby. This is Mr. Spalding ' s second year as principal of Granite High. ASSISTANT PRINCIPALS Mr. Kennerly graduated from S.I.U., Cd- wardsville with B.S. and M.S. degrees, rormeriy In charge of discipline, he is now in charge of the scheduling of stu- dents and teachers for each semester. Nr. Painter was appointed this year as assistant at the Senior High, and is now In charge of student discipline. He has a B.S. degree from Eastern Illinois Uni- versity, and a M.S. from Southern Illi- nois University. newly appointed as assistant principal is Mr. Whitaker. He has a B.A. and a M.S. Ed. from Southern Illinois University. He is the former head wrestling coach and also was a P.E. instructor. Administration 21
