MR. GILBERT V. WALMSLEY SUPERINTENDENT OF SCHOOLS Our new Superintendent of Schools is Mr. Gilbert V. Walmsley, who has been with the Granite City school system since 1963, when he came here as an instructor in industrial arts and driver education. Mr. Walmsley has been appointed by the Board of Education to replace Dr. Max Redmond, the former superintendent, who resigned. Mr. Walmsley began his teaching career in St. Louis before coming to Granite City. Besides being an instructor in industrial arts and driver education, he is a former guidance counselor and assistant principal at the high school. In 1970 he became principal of Prather Junior High School. In 1972 he was named principal of North High School, serving in that position for 10 years. In 1983, when the high schools were combined, he became principal of the Senior High School, until being named superintendent this school year. Mr. Walmsley graduated from East Alton — Wood River High School. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Industrial Arts and Safety Education from S.I.U., Carbondale, a Master’s degree in School Administration and Guidance from Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville, and an Educational Specialist degree in School Administration from S.I.U. -Edwardsville. Monroe Worthen Mr. Alan Crider Mr. Dewey Mellon The seven member Board of Education for Community Unit School District 9 sets the basic guidelines for the operation of the schools within the district, their students and staff. The members are elected by the voters, and serve without pay. In November, 1986, Mrs. Jo Ann Macios was appointed to the board to fill the vacancy left by Mr. Gerald McKechan, who resigned in order to take a teaching position within the district. In the newly reorganized board, Mr. Kelly Hogan was elected President, Mrs. Jolene Terrell, Treasurer, and Mrs. Jo Ann Macious, Secretary. Mr. David Partney
