Sealed : Mr Gerald McKechan (Secretary), Mr. Dewey Mellon (President), Mrs. lolene Travis-Terrel. Standing Mr Ulan Crider, Mr David Partney, Mr L. Monroe Worthen (Treasurer). Not Pictured: Mr. Kelly Hogan. BOARD OF EDUCATION 1986 The seven member board of education for Community Unit 9 School District is elected by the voters, serving the people of this school district without pay. In 1985, Thomas Miofsky retired from the board, leaving a vacancy, and Ruth Lahr, Alan Crider, and L. Monroe Worthen were up for re-election. Worthen, the senior member of the board, who has served since 1960, was the leading vote getter out of a field of ten, winning another term. Alan Crider was re-elected to his seat on the board, and Gerald McKechan, a former teacher and coach in Granite City, was elected a new member. Ruth Lahr was defeated, and Jolene Travis-Terrel was elected a new member. The newly reorganized board has chosen £. Dewey Melton as the president until November, 1986. Gerald McKechan was chosen secretary of the board, and L. Monroe Worthen was elected school treasurer. The function of the board of education is to determine the basic policies to be followed by the staff and students of the school district. We wish them well in this difficult endeavor. 18
